Former Wrexham forward Lee Trundle predicted that Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney would approve a £10m signing if one were needed. That was Trundle’s opinion in an interview published by GOAL on 4 August 2026—not a club announcement, a confirmed bid or a promise from either owner.
Where the £10m claim came from
GOAL asked Trundle whether Wrexham’s owners would sanction a £10m deal if required. His answer was: “I think they are.” The wording matters: Trundle was expressing his belief about what the owners might do, rather than reporting a specific transfer plan or direct commitment from Reynolds or McElhenney. GOAL, 4 August 2026.
The claim was framed around whether the owners might be willing to spend £10m-plus. It does not identify a target, establish that Wrexham had made an offer, or confirm that a deal was being negotiated.
What Wrexham’s Broadhead deal shows
The clearest comparison in the available reporting is Nathan Broadhead’s move from Ipswich Town to Wrexham in August 2025. BBC Sport reported that the four-year deal could eventually be worth £10m, while noting that the initial fee was likely to be some way below that total. The reported figure should therefore not be described as £10m paid upfront. BBC Sport, 15 August 2025.

Manager Phil Parkinson also addressed the reported total, saying: “The fee has been out there at £10m but I think we have to get to the Premier League and win the Champions League to get to that,” before adding, “But it’s a price for a player of real Championship quality.” His remarks put the headline figure in the context of a potential total dependent on sporting achievement, not simply the initial transfer payment. BBC Sport, 15 August 2025.
What the owners have said about football decisions
Reynolds has said that he and McElhenney do not make the club’s football decisions: “We don’t make football decisions.” BBC Sport quoted the comment from Sky Sports in August 2025. That describes their stated sporting role, but it does not establish whether they provide financial backing for a transfer or what they might decide about a future deal. BBC Sport, 17 August 2025.

What is known about Wrexham’s latest season
The Associated Press reported that Wrexham finished seventh in the 2025–26 Championship and missed the play-offs. That is relevant sporting context, but it does not verify Trundle’s prediction or indicate what the owners will approve in a later window. The Associated Press, May 2026.

| Question | Broadhead transfer, August 2025 | Trundle’s £10m claim, August 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| What is established? | A completed move from Ipswich Town on a four-year deal. | Trundle’s opinion that the owners would sanction a £10m deal if required. |
| What does £10m mean? | A reported possible total value; the initial fee was likely lower, according to BBC Sport. | A hypothetical signing amount in Trundle’s answer; no fee or deal was announced. |
| Is there a named target or bid? | Broadhead is the named player in a completed transfer. | No named target or bid is established by the claim. |
The Broadhead precedent shows that a Wrexham transfer has been reported at a potential total of £10m. It does not establish that the owners have since promised to fund another deal at that level. The sources cited here also do not establish whether a subsequent signing has surpassed Broadhead’s reported potential total, so it would be premature to call him Wrexham’s current record signing.
