Apple’s U.S. Back to School 2026 promotion ended on August 27, 2026. During the offer period, qualified education customers received a $100 or $150 Apple Gift Card with selected Mac and iPad purchases through Apple’s Education Store, retail stores or phone sales. Education pricing itself is separate and may continue after the seasonal promotion.
The key financial question is not simply how large the gift card was. It is whether you needed an eligible device, received Apple’s education price, and would genuinely use the gift card for another Apple purchase.

What Apple’s 2026 Back to School promotion offered
Apple’s U.S. promotion ran from July 16 through August 27, 2026, while supplies lasted. The offer applied on top of Apple’s education pricing, but it was not an immediate cash discount on every Apple product.

Education pricing and the seasonal offer are different
Apple’s Education Store generally offers education pricing throughout the year. The Back to School promotion was the temporary incentive layered on top of that pricing.
That distinction matters if you are deciding whether to wait for another promotion. After August 27, a qualified buyer may still be able to buy an eligible Apple product at the education price, but should not assume that the $100 or $150 gift card is still available.

- Apple’s normal retail price;
- Apple’s education price;
- the promotional gift-card value; and
- the price of comparable products elsewhere.
Because Apple’s prices vary by chip, screen size, memory, storage and other configuration choices, there was no single meaningful “Back to School price” for an entire product family.
Which products qualified?
Eligible Macs
The promotional Mac categories were:
- MacBook Air: $100 Apple Gift Card.
- MacBook Pro: $150 Apple Gift Card.
Apple’s Education Store also listed other Macs, including the MacBook Neo, iMac, Mac mini and Mac Studio, with education pricing. However, those products were not identified on the current promotional pages as eligible for the Back to School gift card.

Do not assume that a product qualifies merely because it appears in the Education Store. The product page or checkout should identify the promotional eligibility.
Eligible iPads
The promotional iPad categories were:
- iPad Air: $100 Apple Gift Card.
- iPad Pro: $100 Apple Gift Card.
The standard iPad and iPad mini were available through Apple’s Education Store but were not listed as qualifying products for the current gift-card offer.

That exclusion could make the lower-priced product the better financial choice. Buying an iPad Pro solely to obtain a $100 gift card can cost more than choosing an iPad Air or standard iPad that already meets your needs.
Who was eligible?
Apple’s U.S. Education Store eligibility generally includes:
- Students attending or accepted into an eligible higher-education institution in the United States or Puerto Rico.
- Faculty and staff of higher-education institutions.
- Parents purchasing for an eligible higher-education student.
- Employees of public or private K–12 institutions, including homeschool teachers.
- Eligible school-board members.
Eligibility is not automatic for every student, parent or school employee. Apple may request information or otherwise validate status. The promotion’s terms and Apple’s U.S. Education sales policy determine whether a particular purchaser qualifies.

Where could customers buy?
Qualifying purchases could be made through:
- Apple’s U.S. Education Store.
- Physical Apple Store locations.
- Apple’s U.S. phone-sales channel at 1-800-MY-APPLE.
Starting at the Education Store was the safest way to verify both eligibility and education pricing. A purchase from Apple’s regular retail storefront should not be assumed to qualify retroactively for the education promotion.
Purchases and deliveries had to be within the same qualifying country. The U.S. terms do not establish the dates, products or gift-card values for Canada, the United Kingdom, India, Australia or other markets.
How much was the gift card really worth?
The nominal value was $100 for a MacBook Air or either qualifying iPad category, and $150 for a MacBook Pro. Its practical value depended on whether you would have spent that money with Apple anyway.
The gift card could generally be used for eligible Apple Store products such as:
- Mac computers and iPads;
- Apple Watch and Apple TV;
- AirPods and HomePod; and
- Accessories such as cases, cables, adapters and headphones.
Apple’s payment-help information describes eligible product use. Do not treat the card as universally spendable across every Apple service or subscription without checking the applicable terms.

For budgeting purposes:
- If you already planned to buy a case, monitor, headphones or another Apple device, the gift card may function like a meaningful rebate.
- If you would not otherwise buy from Apple, the card is worth less than its face value to you.
- The gift card did not reduce the upfront price of an ineligible Mac or iPad.
- It was not cash that could simply be withdrawn or applied to unrelated expenses.
Is the MacBook Pro offer better than the MacBook Air offer?
Not automatically. The MacBook Pro carried the larger gift card, but it was also the more expensive product category.
- MacBook Air: usually the more sensible fit for writing, web research, office work, coding, coursework and portability.
- MacBook Pro: more defensible for sustained professional workloads such as high-end video production, large software projects or demanding 3D and creative work.
- MacBook Neo: potentially relevant for buyers seeking a lower-cost Apple laptop, but it was not identified as eligible for the seasonal gift card.
Compare the total price and your workload before assigning value to the larger Pro incentive. A $150 gift card does not justify spending substantially more on hardware you do not need.
Is the iPad Pro offer better than the iPad Air offer?
Both qualifying categories carried a $100 gift card, so the iPad Pro did not provide a larger promotional incentive. The iPad Air was generally the more economical choice for note-taking, reading, drawing, media and ordinary productivity.
The iPad Pro may make sense when you specifically need its higher-end display, performance or professional creative workflow. Otherwise, choosing the cheaper iPad Air—or an excluded standard iPad or iPad mini—may leave more money available for tuition, accessories or other education expenses.
Returns and restrictions
Returning the qualifying product
Apple required the promotional gift card and the qualifying Mac or iPad to be returned for a full refund. If the gift card was missing, not returned or had already been redeemed, Apple said it could deduct the gift card’s full original value from the refund or exchange value.

In practical terms, do not spend the promotional card before you are certain you will keep the qualifying device. Apple’s Education sales policy generally allows eligible products to be returned or exchanged within 14 days of receipt, subject to the policy and exclusions.
Quantity limits
Apple’s terms specified one promotional product per qualified purchaser for eligible Mac purchases and one promotional product per qualified purchaser for eligible iPad purchases. The offer was also subject to product and gift-card availability.
Do not assume that buying multiple devices, or buying both a Mac and an iPad, will automatically produce multiple gift cards. Check the offer’s application at checkout.

Individual Education Store purchases were not intended for institutional purchasing or resale. Schools and other organizations may need a separate procurement channel or contract, such as Apple’s education purchasing information.
Could financing, trade-in or AppleCare+ reduce the cost?
These options should be evaluated separately rather than treated as one combined discount:
- Trade-in: Apple may apply an assessed value for an eligible old device, reducing the amount paid for the new one. The value depends on condition and Apple’s assessment. See Apple Trade In.
- Apple Card Monthly Installments: Apple’s promotion terms referenced this U.S. financing option for eligible purchases, subject to approval, credit limit and selection at checkout. Financing spreads payments over time; it does not reduce the underlying price.
- AppleCare+: This adds protection at its own cost and may involve service fees. It can be useful for a frequently transported student device, but it should not be described as a discount.
Apple’s terms do not justify claiming that every offer, financing arrangement or protection plan stacks without conditions.
When was the promotion financially worthwhile?
The offer was strongest for someone who:
- qualified for Apple’s Education Store;
- needed a MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iPad Air or iPad Pro;
- could buy before August 27, 2026;
- preferred Apple’s configuration, support or trade-in process; and
- already expected to spend the gift-card value on Apple products.
It was weaker for someone who:
- wanted the lowest possible upfront price;
- needed a Windows-only application, gaming compatibility or upgradeable hardware;
- was considering a MacBook Neo, standard iPad or iPad mini;
- could find a materially lower price at a retailer, campus bookstore or refurbished outlet; or
- would not otherwise spend the gift card.
Retailers may offer immediate discounts, bundles or rewards, but their current prices, stock, configurations and warranty terms must be checked separately. Apple’s refurbished store can also be worth comparing when an outright lower price matters more than receiving promotional store credit.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat to check before a future Apple education purchase
- Confirm that you qualify under Apple’s current U.S. Education Store rules.
- Open the Education Store rather than assuming the standard Apple Store will apply the benefit.
- Confirm that the exact configuration is promotional-eligible.
- Compare Apple’s education price with retailer, campus-bookstore and refurbished prices.
- Value the gift card according to your planned Apple spending, not automatically at its face value.
- Review delivery timing, availability and return terms.
- Keep the gift card unused until you are confident you will keep the qualifying product.
Bottom line
Apple’s 2026 U.S. Back to School promotion was a limited-time gift-card incentive—not a universal $100 or $150 price cut. It ended August 27, 2026, and covered only the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iPad Air and iPad Pro categories identified in Apple’s terms. For a qualified buyer who needed one of those devices and planned to spend with Apple again, the offer could be valuable on top of education pricing. For everyone else, a cheaper eligible product, retailer discount or refurbished device may have been the better financial decision.
