Standalone coverage starts at $4.99 per month for some iPads and $2.99 per month for Apple Watch SE. An approved theft-or-loss replacement also costs a separate $129 deductible for an iPad or $119 for an Apple Watch, and standalone plans cover up to two theft-or-loss incidents in a 12-month period. Keep Find My enabled and do not remove the missing device from your Apple Account before Apple approves the claim.

Annual payment is lower than 12 monthly payments at the listed prices: for example, $4.99 monthly totals $59.88 over 12 months, compared with $49.99 annually; Apple Watch SE at $2.99 monthly totals $35.88, compared with $29.99 annually. Apple’s disclosure also describes fixed-term coverage for some products, but does not establish a complete fixed-term price table for every iPad and Watch model. Check the specific device’s checkout offer rather than assuming monthly and annual are the only options.

The premium keeps coverage in force; the deductible is a separate charge when a theft-or-loss claim is approved. Apple lists these fees on its AppleCare service fees and deductibles page. Taxes may also apply. Replacement timing and the exact color, storage, cellular configuration, or retail package are governed by the applicable plan terms; approval does not establish that an identical configuration will be supplied.

Accidental damage is a separate benefit
AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss also includes AppleCare+ benefits, but accidental-damage service fees are not the theft-or-loss deductible. Apple’s current fee information lists the following U.S. charges:
- Apple Watch: $69 for accidental damage; $79 for Apple Watch Ultra and Hermès.
- iPad: For models in Apple’s newer fee tier, $29 for screen damage and $99 for other accidental damage. Other listed iPad models have a $49 fee for other accidental damage.
- Covered iPad accessories: $29 for accidental damage to one Apple Pencil, Apple Pencil Pro, or Apple-branded iPad keyboard under applicable terms.

Apple says battery service is covered without an additional fee when capacity falls below 80% of original capacity. Its AppleCare page also says one Apple Pencil and one Apple-branded iPad keyboard can receive accidental-damage coverage with a covered iPad; in-box cables and power adapters are covered under applicable terms: AppleCare coverage details.

Standalone plans versus AppleCare One
AppleCare One starts at $19.99 per month for up to three Apple devices, with each additional device costing $5.99 per month. It includes AppleCare+ benefits and theft-and-loss protection for eligible iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch devices. Apple says members can add or swap products, including products they already own. The theft-and-loss allowance is up to three incidents per year total across eligible devices—not three per device. Check Apple’s current AppleCare One terms and offer before enrolling.

In either standalone example, an approved theft-or-loss claim still carries the relevant $129 iPad or $119 Watch deductible. AppleCare One is not automatically the cheaper option for only two devices; its value depends on device count, models, and which products you actually enroll.

How to file a theft-or-loss claim
Apple requires Find My to have been enabled when the device was lost or stolen and to remain enabled throughout the claim process. Removing the device from Find My or your Apple Account before approval can jeopardize eligibility. Follow Apple’s device-specific instructions for iPad claims or Apple Watch claims.
- Use the Find My app or go to iCloud.com/find, then mark the missing device as lost.
- Keep Find My enabled and leave the device associated with the Apple Account. Do not remove it while Apple is reviewing the claim.
- Sign in with the Apple Account associated with the coverage and start the claim using Apple’s iPad or Watch claim instructions.
- Follow the claim process and pay the applicable deductible if the claim is approved.
Apple’s support material emphasizes Find My; it does not establish cellular service as a prerequisite for an Apple Watch claim.

- Owners of expensive or frequently carried devices: A high replacement cost, frequent travel, commuting, or regular use in crowded places can make theft-and-loss protection more relevant.
- Apple Watch owners concerned about losing a small wearable: Compare the plan’s recurring premium and $119 claim deductible with the cost of replacing your particular model.
- People covering several Apple devices: Compare the total standalone premiums with AppleCare One, while accounting for its three-total-incident annual cap.
- Owners of an inexpensive or older device: Self-insuring may make sense if the replacement price is modest, you can afford an unexpected replacement, or the premium plus deductible approaches that cost.
- People with other insurance: Check homeowners, renters, travel, credit-card, carrier, or retailer protection for deductibles, exclusions, and whether loss away from home is covered before paying for overlapping protection.
Eligibility and limits to check before buying
- Claim cap: Standalone AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss covers up to two theft-or-loss incidents in a 12-month period. AppleCare One has a separate cap of up to three total incidents per year across eligible iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch devices.
- Enrollment timing: Apple’s relevant U.S. support material says the plan can be added within 60 days of purchase, but availability and windows can vary by product, country, and current terms. Use the device offer or Apple’s coverage checker to confirm eligibility.
- On-device check: On an iPad, open Settings → General → AppleCare & Warranty, select the iPad, and review available offers. For an Apple Watch, use the paired iPhone or Apple coverage tools rather than assuming the iPad path applies.
- Coverage checker: Use Apple’s coverage checker or Apple’s enrollment support page to confirm the offer for your device.
- Coverage type: Standard AppleCare+ is distinct from AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss. Do not assume a standard plan covers a missing device; see Apple’s legal AppleCare terms.
