AMD Ryzen 9 7900X Hit $239.99 in February 2026—but a Later Deal Went Lower

Woot’s February 2026 $239.99 Ryzen 9 7900X deal was compelling for productivity and mixed-use builds, but it has expired—and a later offer reportedly dropped to $199.99.

The Ryzen 9 7900X was offered for $239.99 at Woot on February 10, 2026, in a promotion that HotHardware described as the lowest price it had seen for a new, retail-boxed chip. That offer has expired, and a later Woot promotion listed the processor for $199.99, so $239.99 is not the lowest documented deal in the available price history. Whether the 7900X is still a bargain depends on the rest of your build and whether you need its 12 cores.

What the $239.99 Woot deal included

The February promotion covered the boxed AMD Ryzen 9 7900X, product identifier 100-100000589WOF. Slickdeals reported that Woot offered it as new, with Amazon fulfillment. Shipping was free for eligible Amazon Prime members; other shoppers were quoted $6. The promotion was listed to end February 12, 2026, or earlier if stock ran out, and is no longer active. See the deal listing and HotHardware’s February coverage.

The quoted price was before any applicable tax. A similar name on another listing does not guarantee the same product or condition: check that it is the boxed WOF SKU, and review the seller, fulfillment, return terms, warranty coverage and delivery date. Tray, used, refurbished, or third-party marketplace offers are not equivalent to the deal described here.

Was $240 really the all-time low?

It was a record-low price in HotHardware’s report at the time, not a claim that remains accurate after later sales. A Slickdeals post dated March 31, 2026, reported a subsequent Woot offer at $199.99. That later listing appears to beat the February price, though neither deal establishes what the processor will cost in a future sale. The original $239.99 offer was still a substantial discount from the chip’s $549 suggested launch price, but launch MSRP is historical context—not a measure of today’s value.

During the February promotion, HotHardware cited prices of about $359 at Best Buy and AMD.com and $299.99 at Micro Center. Those were comparisons reported at that time, not current quotes. See the later $199.99 deal listing and AMD’s Ryzen 7000 launch announcement.

What the Ryzen 9 7900X offers

The 7900X is a Zen 4 desktop processor for AMD’s AM5 platform. Its 12 cores and 24 threads make it suited to workloads that can use many threads, including compiling, rendering, encoding, virtualization and heavy multitasking. It can also serve in a mixed-use PC for gaming and work, though those specifications alone do not make it the best gaming choice.

Cooler Not included
Maximum operating temperature 95°C
PCIe PCIe 5.0 platform support

AMD lists TSMC 5 nm CPU cores and a 6 nm I/O die, and describes the processor as unlocked. The 5.6 GHz figure is a maximum advertised boost, not a promise of sustained all-core speed; actual performance varies with workload, cooling, motherboard settings, BIOS and memory configuration. Full specifications are on AMD’s product page.

Budget for the whole platform, not just the CPU

A $239.99 processor price is not the cost of a working PC. A new build needs an AM5 motherboard and DDR5 memory, and AMD does not include a cooler. AMD recommends liquid cooling for optimal performance; the 170 W default TDP makes cooler capacity, case airflow and motherboard power delivery worth considering. The chip’s integrated Radeon graphics can provide basic display output, but it is not a substitute for a discrete graphics card for modern gaming.

AMD Ryzen 9 7900 12-Core, 24-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor
  • SERIOUS PERFORMANCE FOR GAMERS AND CREATORS
  • 12 Cores and 24 processing threads, based on AMD "Zen 4" architecture
  • 5.4 GHz Max Boost, unlocked for overclocking, 76 MB cache, DDR5 support
  • For the state-of-the-art Socket AM5 platform, can support PCIe 5.0 on select 600 Series motherboards
  • AMD Wraith Prism RGB Cooler Included
  • Motherboard: AM5 only; it cannot be installed in an AM4 board. Check the exact board’s CPU support list and BIOS version, particularly with an older or unusual AM5 model.
  • Memory: DDR5 is required. DDR4 from an older system cannot be reused.
  • Cooling and case: Choose a cooler and airflow setup appropriate to the processor and workload; a small cooler or restrictive case may limit performance or make the system harder to cool quietly.
  • Other parts: Include a graphics card if needed, along with storage, power supply, case and operating system. Their cost depends on the rest of the build.

For an existing AM5 owner with compatible cooling and memory, the CPU deal may be close to a drop-in upgrade. For a new build—or a move from AM4—the motherboard, DDR5 and cooling costs can erase some of the apparent savings.

Who is likely to get value from it?

Strong fit: productivity and mixed-use PCs

The 7900X makes the clearest case when you can use its 12 cores for sustained multi-threaded work and also want a capable gaming processor. It is also attractive to an AM5 owner who needs more CPU capacity without replacing the motherboard and memory.

Compare carefully: gaming-first builds

The 7900X is capable for games, but it does not have AMD’s 3D V-Cache. Gaming performance depends on the specific game, graphics card, resolution and settings, so a lower-core Ryzen X3D option or a newer Ryzen model may be better value for a gaming-focused system. Compare current benchmarks and the complete platform price rather than choosing by core count or the old deal price alone.

Look elsewhere: low-power or quiet systems

A 170 W default TDP and AMD’s recommendation for liquid cooling make the 7900X a less straightforward choice for a low-power, compact or especially quiet PC. The Ryzen 9 7900 may be easier to cool and more suitable when lower power use matters more than the X model’s higher clocks and power limits.

Alternatives depend on the work and the total cost

Option Consider it when Main trade-off
Ryzen 9 7900 You value lower power use and easier cooling, or do not need the 7900X’s higher power limits and clocks. It may cost more than a deeply discounted 7900X and is not necessarily faster in heavily threaded work.
Ryzen 9 7950X You need maximum multicore capacity for heavily parallel work such as professional rendering or simulation. It has 16 cores and 32 threads versus the 7900X’s 12 and 24, but generally entails higher purchase and cooling costs. Both are listed at 170 W TDP in AMD’s launch comparison.
Ryzen 9 7900X3D You want a Ryzen 9 core count with additional gaming-oriented cache. Its value depends on the price gap and relevant game benchmarks; a large premium over the 7900X may be hard to justify.
Ryzen 7 X3D models Gaming performance is the priority, especially when CPU limits matter at high refresh rates. Fewer cores can mean weaker performance in some rendering, compiling and other multicore workloads.
Newer Ryzen generations You are building from scratch and value potential efficiency, performance or platform improvements. A newer chip is not automatically better value if its CPU and platform cost substantially more.

AMD’s launch specifications identify the 7950X as a 16-core/32-thread, 170 W part. For all alternatives, compare current prices and workload-relevant performance; historical sale prices are not a substitute for a current quote.

Verdict: a strong historical price for the right build

At $239.99, the boxed 7900X was a compelling February 2026 buy for someone who needed 12 cores, especially an AM5 owner or a productivity-focused builder who had already accounted for cooling and the rest of the platform. It was not an automatic pick for a gaming-only or low-power PC. The Woot promotion has ended, and the later reported $199.99 sale means the February price should be called a notable deal—not the lowest documented price.
