AMD and Meta announced a multi-year agreement to deploy up to six gigawatts of AMD Instinct GPU infrastructure, but that is a planned maximum—not six gigawatts already installed. AMD said shipments for the first gigawatt were scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026. The agreement also includes a performance-based warrant that could give Meta up to 160 million AMD shares if specified conditions are met.

What the AMD–Meta deal includes

Announced on February 24, 2026, the agreement spans multiple generations of AMD hardware and software for Meta’s AI infrastructure. AMD describes it as an extension of an existing relationship, with the companies aligning their product roadmaps. The stated scale is up to six gigawatts of AMD Instinct GPUs; it is not a disclosed GPU count or confirmation that the full buildout has happened. AMD’s announcement does not provide a conversion from gigawatts to a number of accelerator cards.

The first announced system

The initial deployment is expected to combine a custom Instinct GPU based on MI450 architecture and optimized for Meta workloads with AMD’s sixth-generation EPYC CPUs, codenamed Venice, ROCm software, and AMD Helios rack-scale architecture. These are components of an integrated data-center system, not a purchase of consumer Radeon gaming cards.

When Meta is expected to receive the GPUs

AMD said shipments supporting the first gigawatt were scheduled to start in the second half of 2026. This is a forward-looking schedule, not confirmation that shipments have begun or that the first gigawatt is installed. The announcement does not give a complete delivery calendar for the remaining planned deployments.

Why the agreement is about more than GPUs

At this scale, an AI data center depends on coordinated compute, memory, networking, power, cooling, and software. AMD’s September 2026 description of the partnership discusses co-engineering across Instinct GPUs, EPYC CPUs, Pensando networking, ROCm, and Helios rack-scale systems. It also describes a progression from MI300X to MI350X and toward the custom MI450-based GPU. AMD’s later account frames the work as integrated infrastructure rather than a standalone accelerator order.

AMD said Meta had already deployed millions of AMD EPYC CPUs and significant quantities of MI300- and MI350-series GPUs. Those installed-base figures come from AMD and are not presented as independently audited totals.

Is the AMD–Meta deal worth $100 billion?

The Associated Press reported that the agreement could potentially be worth more than $100 billion. That is AP’s reported potential estimate, not a fixed contract price stated in AMD’s announcement. AMD did not disclose a single total purchase price in the release, so the estimate should not be treated as a confirmed amount Meta has committed to pay.

How Meta could receive AMD shares

AMD said it issued Meta a performance-based warrant covering up to 160 million AMD common shares. The maximum is conditional, not an unconditional grant.

  • The first tranche is tied to the milestone for shipment of the initial one gigawatt.
  • Further tranches vest as Meta’s purchases scale toward six gigawatts.
  • Vesting is also tied to stock-price thresholds, while exercise depends on technical and commercial milestones.

The announcement does not state that Meta will receive or exercise all 160 million shares. The number is the warrant’s maximum, subject to its conditions.

What the agreement could mean for AMD—and what it does not establish

AMD’s CEO Lisa Su described the collaboration as aligning roadmaps across GPUs, CPUs, and rack-scale AI systems. CFO Jean Hu said AMD expected substantial multi-year revenue growth and an accretive effect on non-GAAP earnings per share. These are company expectations, not guaranteed financial outcomes. Deployment timing, revenue, and earnings effects may change; AMD identifies forward-looking statements in its announcement.

The deal signals a large planned role for AMD in Meta’s AI infrastructure, but the announcement does not establish completed six-gigawatt deployment, independent performance results for the custom Meta GPU, or a precise value for the full agreement. The scale figure, delivery schedule, and financial implications should therefore be read as plans and expectations rather than completed results.
