What vegan options did ALDI’s 2022 guide list?
The examples below come from a guide updated September 23, 2022. They show the range of products shoppers could look for at that time; they do not confirm that an item is still sold or stocked at any particular store. Treehugger’s 2022 guide also noted that some products start as limited-time ALDI Finds.
Meat and protein alternatives
- Beyond Burger, described as occasionally available
- Earth Grown chickenless patties and tenders, meatless meatballs, meatless Italian sausage, jumbo hot dogs and vegan meatless turkey breast
- Organic and baked tofu, tofu cubes and veggie burgers
Dairy alternatives
- Earth Grown vegan cheese, cream-cheese-style spread and mozzarella-style shreds
- Friendly Farms almond, coconut and oat milk, as well as nondairy creamer and almond nog
- Earth Grown nondairy ice cream and cookie sandwiches
Appetizers and snacks
- Eggplant fries, vegetable potstickers, hummus and plant-based queso-style dip
- Guacamole singles, falafel and vegan dumplings
Prepared meals and breakfast
- Prepared-food examples included butternut squash soup, vegan bolognese, vegan mac and cheese, ravioli and Loma Linda meals.
- Breakfast examples included vegan cereals, granola and Elevation bars.
Is every Earth Grown product vegan?
No. ALDI describes Earth Grown as a plant-based line and gives kale and quinoa crunch burgers, chicken-less patties and tenders as examples of products certified vegetarian or vegan. That description is not a guarantee that every item in the broader Earth Grown line is vegan. ALDI’s Earth Grown page describes the line and examples.
ALDI customer support distinguishes Earth Grown from Earth Grown Vegan in its guidance about animal traces: “The only product line that we can assure you have no beef or pork traces in is our Earth Grown and Earth Grown Vegan product lines.” The same answer says ALDI does not specify with suppliers which enzymes should be used in products generally. For a specific item, look for an explicit vegan designation and read its current ingredient label rather than assuming the brand name settles the question. Are these products still available?
The 2022 list cannot establish current stock, current formulations or whether an item remains in ALDI’s range. ALDI’s brand directory identifies Earth Grown as an ALDI-exclusive brand, but it does not confirm the availability of any particular product. On October 7, 2022, ALDI listed a recall of Earth Grown Vegan Traditional Falafel and Garlic & Herb Falafel because of possible E. coli exposure if the products were undercooked. The official notice identifies the affected 12-ounce packages and product codes.
