Airbus A321XLR Orders: Which Airlines Have Ordered the Plane?

IndiGo, United, American, Qantas, Air Canada, Saudia and Air India have publicly supported A321XLR commitments—but counts vary by date and type.

The named A321XLR commitments supported by available figures include IndiGo (69), United Airlines (50), American Airlines (50), Qantas (48), Air Canada (30), Saudia (15) and Air India (15 converted orders). These figures come from different dates and do not all describe new purchases: some are announced orders, one is a conversion from existing A321neo orders, and Air Canada’s total includes leased aircraft. This is a non-exhaustive list, not a complete October 2026 order-book tally.

Why there is no single definitive airline order list

Airbus reports the A321XLR within its A321neo-family order figures rather than publishing a separate monthly XLR customer ledger. Airbus figures cited in a 2026 SEC-hosted aircraft appraisal show more than 500 announced A321XLR orders from more than 20 customers through December 31, 2025. That aggregate covers all customers, not just airlines, and is not a current October 2026 total. The appraisal also cites REDBOOK Fleet+ airline-specific figures for January 2026.

Airbus’s orders-and-deliveries page listed an August 2026 report, but its spreadsheet is not reflected in the figures below. The table therefore presents named commitments supported by specific sources and dates; it should not be read as exhaustive, and the counts should not be added together to create a grand total.

Which airlines have ordered the A321XLR?

Airline Count What the figure represents
IndiGo 69 Announced orders in REDBOOK Fleet+ figures for January 2026, cited by the SEC-hosted aircraft appraisal.
United Airlines 50 Announced orders in REDBOOK Fleet+ figures for January 2026, cited by the SEC-hosted aircraft appraisal.
American Airlines 50 Announced orders in REDBOOK Fleet+ figures for January 2026, cited by the SEC-hosted aircraft appraisal.
Qantas 48 Qantas said an additional 20 aircraft announced in August 2025 brought its stated total to 48.
Air Canada 30 Air Canada said 15 aircraft would be leased and 15 acquired directly from Airbus.
Saudia 15 Airbus identified the aircraft delivered in May 2026 as the first of 15 A321XLRs on order.
Air India 15 Existing A321neo orders converted to A321XLRs in January 2026; deliveries were expected in 2029–2030.

The first three counts are market-data figures, not an Airbus-published airline ranking. The later four come from carrier or Airbus announcements. Their dates and commitment types differ, so a larger number in the table does not necessarily mean a newer or wholly separate purchase.

Which airlines are already flying the A321XLR?

Saudia

Airbus announced that Saudia received its first A321XLR on May 25, 2026, describing it as the first of the airline’s 15 on order. A delivery means the aircraft has been handed over; by itself, it does not establish that the plane has begun scheduled passenger service. Airbus’s delivery announcement identifies the milestone.

Air Canada

Air Canada announced its first scheduled A321XLR service in June 2026. Its announced 30-aircraft commitment consists of 15 leased aircraft and 15 to be acquired directly from Airbus. Air Canada’s June 9, 2026 announcement covers the scheduled-service milestone and fleet plan.

Air India’s future deliveries

Air India converted 15 existing A321neo orders to the XLR in January 2026, with deliveries expected between 2029 and 2030. Those aircraft were not described as already delivered or in service. Air India’s announcement explains the conversion.

What the A321XLR is designed to do

Airbus describes the A321XLR as a long-range, single-aisle member of the A320neo family, with a maximum range of up to 4,700 nautical miles. That is a manufacturer-stated maximum, not a guarantee for every route: actual operating range depends on factors including aircraft configuration and operating conditions. Air India said the aircraft would enable nonstop international routes and medium-haul services using single-aisle aircraft economics. These are capability and airline-positioning statements, not evidence that every carrier in the table has announced specific routes. Airbus’s A321XLR overview describes the aircraft and its published range.

How to interpret the order figures

  • Announced order: A reported commitment to acquire aircraft; it does not mean the airline already operates them.
  • Lease: The aircraft is expected to be supplied under a leasing arrangement rather than acquired directly from Airbus. Air Canada’s 30-aircraft figure includes 15 leased aircraft.
  • Conversion: Air India changed the model attached to 15 existing A321neo orders. The change does not represent 15 additional orders on top of those aircraft.
  • Delivery: The aircraft has been handed over to its customer. Saudia’s first delivery was announced in May 2026.
  • Scheduled service: The airline has announced that the aircraft is operating passenger service; Air Canada announced its first A321XLR scheduled service in June 2026.

Older customer overviews also named carriers and leasing companies such as Wizz Air, Frontier, JetSMART, Cebu Pacific, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Middle East Airlines and VietJet. Because that overview dates to 2020 and commitments can change, those names provide historical context rather than verified current order counts. The 2020 customer overview is not a current order ledger.
