Safety and age fit
Read the current packaging and instructions, and choose a toy that fits the child’s interests and abilities. CPSC also advises shoppers to keep small balls and toys with small parts away from children younger than 3, keep deflated balloons away from children younger than 8, and discard plastic packaging after opening. For regulatory context, CPSC says toys designed primarily for children 12 or younger must be third-party tested by a CPSC-accepted laboratory and certified by the manufacturer or importer in a Children’s Product Certificate.
