In a February 2025 CRN interview, 1Password co-CEO David Faugno described managed service providers (MSPs) as an important part of the company’s channel strategy and discussed a new Enterprise Password Manager – MSP Edition. He also said 1Password had no IPO decision, date, or explicit plan. Public markets were a possible future milestone, not a scheduled event.
What 1Password launched for MSPs
The Enterprise Password Manager – MSP Edition was a channel-focused version of 1Password’s password-management offering, built around multitenancy. That structure is intended to let an MSP manage multiple client organizations from a service-provider perspective. Faugno said the initial offer would focus on password management; broader platform capabilities would be adapted for MSPs as they were hardened and ready. The interview does not establish that every 1Password product or platform feature was included in the MSP Edition. CRN’s February 2025 interview
For an MSP considering the product, multitenancy is a starting point, not a complete operational assessment. Client onboarding, cross-tenant policy controls, technician permissions, billing and procurement, and the exact features available to each client are practical questions to verify against the current offering.
How MSPs fit into 1Password’s channel strategy
Faugno said 1Password’s go-to-market approach would put channel front and center. MSPs were one part of that plan, alongside hyperscalers—especially AWS Marketplace—and traditional resellers. He called MSPs “a very, very important part of our future.” These were his statements about the company’s strategy in February 2025, not a current ranking of its sales channels.

The interview positioned 1Password as seeking to expand beyond password storage. Faugno described extended access management as connecting identities, devices, and application visibility, including visibility into unsanctioned SaaS use. He presented Trelica’s application-discovery capabilities as helping accelerate that direction. Those are company descriptions of its product strategy, not independent assessments of product coverage or outcomes.
What changed in the MSP product after the interview
In a May 7, 2026, product update, 1Password described additional MSP controls: policy templates for managed companies, license seat limits, and granular vault permissions. These later additions indicate product progression after the initial launch; they should not be taken to mean that every broader platform capability is part of the MSP Edition. 1Password Community’s May 2026 update

What Faugno said about an IPO
Faugno drew a clear distinction between preparing for the possibility of a public offering and committing to one. In the February 2025 interview, he said: “We have no explicit plans to be public. We’ve not made any decisions. We don’t have any date that we’re working back from.” He also said the company was preparing its systems and operating practices so it could be ready if and when the timing was right.
His broader view was that “we do believe that this platform and this company can be a very large, standalone business. And we do believe that public markets are a likely stop on that journey, and an accelerator of that journey.” That is an aspiration, not evidence of a board decision, IPO timetable, filing, or commitment. How to read the company figures
Faugno reported more than 150,000 customers and said 75 percent of 1Password’s business came from companies in the February 2025 interview. Those are his interview-time figures. In a July 28, 2026, announcement, 1Password reported more than 200,000 business customers. The later number refers specifically to business customers, so it is not a like-for-like update to the earlier total-customer figure. 1Password’s July 2026 announcement
Separately, BetaKit reported in 2025 that 1Password had surpassed $400 million USD in annual recurring revenue (ARR). That figure is BetaKit’s interview-based reporting, not audited financial disclosure. BetaKit’s 2025 report

What the remarks mean for MSPs and investors
For MSPs
The launch signaled that 1Password intended to serve MSPs through a product designed for multi-client management, while the later controls addressed some operational needs such as policy and seat administration. An MSP evaluating it should confirm current feature availability, permissions, client separation, billing terms, and procurement options directly with 1Password or its authorized channel. The 2025 interview mentioned AWS Marketplace and resellers as channel routes, but did not establish current availability or partner-program economics.
For investors and business readers
The IPO remarks conveyed long-term openness to public markets alongside an explicit absence of a plan or timeline in February 2025. Read them as strategic positioning and preparation for optionality—not as a near-term IPO signal. The customer and ARR figures are useful context only with their dates, attribution, and differing definitions intact.
