X Money: What the Leak and Bitcoin Speculation Actually Show

X Money’s published features focus on payments and accounts. The reported leak’s contents are not authenticated, and X has not confirmed Bitcoin or Dogecoin support.

X Money is a payments and account service X has described for selected U.S. users; the available official materials do not confirm support for Bitcoin or Dogecoin. The “Bitcoin nears $100,000” framing belongs to a January 2025 headline, not a current price update, and the precise contents and authenticity of the leak have not been independently established.

What is X Money?

X’s current product page describes a financial account rolling out to selected users in the United States. It lists direct deposit, sending money, bill payment, an account activity view, a card, and conditional interest and cashback. These are X’s published product descriptions, not evidence that every feature is available to every user. Check X Money’s official page for current availability and terms.

The page advertises up to 6.00% APY and up to 3% cashback, with eligibility and other conditions. X says interest is not currently available in New York. Its advertised APY was stated as accurate on July 27, 2026; rates and eligibility can change. X cites a 0.38% national average savings-account rate from the FDIC, dated July 20, 2026, as a comparison. That comparison does not establish that a particular user will qualify for X Money’s maximum rate.

What the account disclosures mean

X says deposits are held at Cross River Bank and other insured institutions, and that its cash-sweep arrangement can provide up to $10 million in aggregate pass-through deposit insurance coverage across participating banks, subject to conditions. This is a stated maximum, not a guarantee that every customer balance or situation receives that coverage. X Payments LLC says it is not an FDIC-insured bank. Review the product’s disclosures to understand eligibility, how funds are held, and the applicable terms.

Bitkey Bitcoin Hardware Wallet, No Screen - Self-Custody, No Seed Phrase
  • BITCOIN EXCLUSIVE, PHONE VERIFICATION: Bitkey is designed from the ground up exclusively for bitcoin — a dedicated hardware wallet for secure bitcoin storage. Approve transactions with a tap using your phone and NFC. No device screen is required.
  • SELF-CUSTODY, NO EXCHANGE OR CUSTODIAN REQUIRED: You hold two of the three keys in the Bitkey system – one on your phone and one on your Bitkey device. The third is stored on Bitkey’s server and cannot move your bitcoin on its own.
  • NO SEED PHRASE: Set up and use Bitkey without creating or storing a seed phrase.
  • 2-of-3 MULTISIG: Three keys are stored separately across your phone, Bitkey device, and Bitkey’s server. Any two keys are required to move your bitcoin.
  • BUILT-IN RECOVERY: Encrypted backup and recovery tools can help you regain access if you lose your phone or Bitkey device. You can also designate a Recovery Contact.

What did the X Money leak reveal?

The available evidence does not establish the leak’s exact contents or authenticate it. It would be misleading to treat unverified leaked screens or feature claims as confirmed product plans. X’s later public product description is a firmer basis for describing the service: it centers on payments and account features, and does not confirm cryptocurrency support.

What did X confirm about Visa and payments?

On January 28, 2025, X named Visa as its first X Money partner. The announced scope included funding an X wallet through Visa Direct, peer-to-peer payments connected to a debit card, and transfers from X to a bank account. The Associated Press reported at the time that an exact launch date had not been announced. Those statements describe the 2025 partnership announcement; they should not be read as a complete account of the service’s current terms or availability. Will X Money support Bitcoin or Dogecoin?

The cited announcements do not confirm either cryptocurrency. Decrypt noted that X’s Visa announcement did not mention crypto and disclosed no Dogecoin feature. A wallet used to fund or transfer money is not, by itself, evidence of a cryptocurrency wallet or crypto trading support. Decrypt’s report on the Visa announcement.

On February 13, 2025, The Block reported that Ran Goldi, Fireblocks’ senior vice president of payments and network, expected X might enable cryptocurrency payouts by the end of that year. That was Goldi’s expectation, not an X announcement or commitment; the report said X and Elon Musk had not announced future crypto plans. Goldi also said, “About three years ago we pointed our compass on payments because we really believe that is where the utility will come from.” The Block’s report.

Why did the headline mention Bitcoin near $100,000?

The Bitcoin phrase came from a Forbes headline dated January 5, 2025. It is historical context for that headline, not a current market quote. The available reporting does not verify Bitcoin’s exact price on that publication date, so no precise figure should be inferred from the wording. Forbes’s January 5, 2025 headline.

What concerns have lawmakers raised?

In an April 14, 2026 letter, the Senate Banking Committee requested information and raised concerns about X Money. The letter cited Musk’s earlier remarks that it was “possible [for X] to become the biggest financial institution in the world” and “I’m talking about, like, you won’t need a bank account.” These are historical remarks reproduced in the committee letter, not confirmed X Money capabilities or current product promises. The committee’s questions and concerns should be understood as its position, not as settled findings. Senate Banking Committee letter.
