Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre’s (WWFC) student-pilot award is now called the Bob Connors LIFT Scholarship. The 2026 application period has ended, and WWFC’s reviewed materials do not establish 2027 dates or a fixed award amount. The details below describe the 2026 cycle; check WWFC’s scholarship page for future application information. Other scholarships also use “LIFT” or “Lift,” so confirm the provider before applying.

What is the WWFC Bob Connors LIFT Scholarship?

It is a scholarship for student pilots undertaking flight training through Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre in Ontario. In 2026, WWFC renamed the program for Bob Connors, citing his leadership and contributions to WWFC and Canadian aviation. WWFC says it has presented $124,000 in support to students since the program began; the page does not state the year for that cumulative figure, and it is not an individual award amount. (WWFC scholarship page)

WWFC explains that “LIFT” is a familiar aviation term and a fitting description of the scholarship’s aim: to support flight training financially and build student pilots’ confidence. (WWFC scholarship page)

Who was eligible in the 2026 cycle?

WWFC’s 2026 application listed these requirements. They describe that cycle only; confirm the rules for any future application with WWFC.

  • Be a WWFC student enrolled in a post-secondary aviation program, including self-paced commercial pilot training.
  • Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Be in an advanced phase of training and hold at least a private pilot licence (PPL).
  • Not have received a LIFT Scholarship before. Applicants who had applied unsuccessfully could apply again.

When was the deadline, and when were recipients announced?

The 2026 application deadline was February 8, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. EST. WWFC said recipients would be announced at its Wings Banquet on March 20, 2026. Both dates have passed. The official materials reviewed do not establish when the 2027 cycle will open or close, so do not rely on the 2026 dates for a future application. Check WWFC’s scholarship page for updates.

What did the application require?

The 2026 form requested personal and training details, including contact information, employment and living status, the aviation program attended, progress across licences and ratings, total flight hours, and pilot-in-command hours. A pilot logbook may help you organize flight-hour records, but WWFC did not require or endorse a particular logbook.

Applicants also had to submit either an essay of no more than 1,000 words or a video of up to three minutes. They could discuss what the scholarship meant to them, how they would give back to aviation, or why aviation mattered to their career. One subject was mandatory: whether their available financial resources would allow them to finish training, what support they had, and what steps they were taking to fund their plans. How did WWFC review applications?

WWFC said a three-member committee of Board members reviews eligible applications, may request in-person interviews, and selects recipients. The 2026 form provided email submission instructions. For a future application, use the current instructions on WWFC’s scholarship page rather than assuming the previous process is unchanged.

How could scholarship funds be used?

Under the 2026 terms, funds were accepted only at WWFC for flight-training purposes. They could not be transferred or redeemed for cash and had to be used within one year; unused funds reverted to the scholarship fund. (WWFC scholarship page)

Does WWFC state the award amount?

No fixed amount per recipient was stated in the 2026 page or application form reviewed. The $124,000 figure is WWFC’s cumulative support since the program began, not the value of an individual scholarship. Ask WWFC or consult the current cycle’s materials for any future award amount.

How does this differ from other “LIFT” scholarships?

The name is shared by unrelated programs. Check the provider and who the award serves before using eligibility rules or deadlines from a search result.

  • WWFC Bob Connors LIFT Scholarship: A Canadian student-pilot scholarship for eligible WWFC aviation-program students; this article covers its 2026 cycle.
  • LIFT Education Foundation / J. Michael Bernard Memorial Scholarship: A Michigan program for high-school seniors pursuing advanced-manufacturing and technical pathways, not pilot training.
  • The 431 Exchange Lift Scholarship: A supplemental award for past 431 Exchange Scholarship recipients who remain enrolled.
  • Foundation for Rural Service scholarships: A separate U.S. rural-student program with NTCA-member sponsorship requirements.
