No confirmed £3bn sale of Tottenham Hotspur has taken place. Eight Sports Capital announced an agreement to buy 24.99% of ENIC, the club’s parent company, but ENIC said it and Tottenham were unaware of any sale by Daniel Levy’s family trust. The latest directly reviewed status report, dated 24 August 2026, said the transaction had not closed; a 23 September search-result extract also described it as unresolved, though that report could not be checked directly.
What was announced?
On 5 June 2026, Eight Sports Capital said it had signed a sale and purchase agreement for a 24.99% interest in ENIC Sports & Developments Holdings Ltd. BBC Sport reported that the stake was connected to Daniel Levy’s family trust. The proposed transaction was for shares in ENIC—not a direct sale of 24.99% of Tottenham Hotspur Limited, and not an agreement to sell the whole club.
Eight Sports Capital said it was “delighted to have signed this agreement to acquire a significant stake in Enic” and looked forward to working with the club’s shareholders and others. That was the buyer-side announcement; it did not establish that the share transfer had completed.
Has the deal gone through?
Not according to the latest directly reviewed status report. A Telegraph report syndicated by AOL on 24 August 2026 said no transaction had taken place and the deal had yet to close. A 23 September 2026 Football Business News search-result extract likewise called the attempted sale unresolved, but the article page could not be fetched. No later completion confirmation was located in the reviewed reporting. The available status is therefore disputed and uncompleted, not a confirmed transfer.

Why did ENIC dispute the announcement?
On 5 June 2026, an ENIC spokesperson told BBC Sport: “We can confirm that neither Enic nor THFC (Tottenham Hotspur Football Club) are aware of any sale by Daniel Levy’s Family Trust of its minority stake in Enic, THFC’s parent company.” This conflicts with Eight Sports Capital’s statement that it had signed an agreement. The announcements establish that the parties made opposing public statements; they do not resolve whether a binding agreement existed or whether it could be completed.
Why the £3bn figure is not the price
The Independent reported a Tottenham valuation of around £3bn in connection with the proposed deal. BBC Sport said no price details had been provided. The £3bn figure is valuation context, not a disclosed amount paid for the 24.99% ENIC interest. Without confirmed consideration and transaction terms, it would be misleading to calculate a purchase price from that valuation.

Who would control ENIC if the announced stake transferred?
The Independent reported that the Lewis family held 70.12% of ENIC, while the proposed 24.99% interest was associated with Levy’s family trust. Those reported holdings indicate that the announced stake would not, by itself, give Eight Sports Capital control of ENIC. In August, the Telegraph report syndicated by AOL said a £100m Lewis-family capital injection had diluted Levy’s reported stake from 29.88% to 27.38%. These are reported ownership figures, not confirmation that the proposed transfer occurred.
Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness suggested in June that the Lewis family might consider buying out Levy. Football Insider reported that Wyness said confirmation was lacking and the situation remained unclear. That was attributed speculation, not evidence of a confirmed buyout agreement.

How this differs from Tottenham being put up for sale
On 26 September 2025, Tottenham Hotspur Limited issued a regulatory announcement saying ENIC had received and rejected an informal expression of interest to acquire the whole club. The statement said: “The Board of the Club and ENIC reconfirm that Tottenham Hotspur is not for sale and ENIC is not looking to sell its stake in the Club.” That earlier whole-club approach is distinct from the later buyer-side announcement about a minority stake in ENIC. Neither announcement establishes a completed sale of Tottenham.
