WWE and TNA officially announced a multi-year partnership in January 2025. A later report said WWE also received an option to purchase TNA and a right of first refusal—but neither provision appears in WWE’s public announcement, and the underlying contract is not public in the sources reviewed. The terms and current status of those reported rights remain unknown.
What WWE and TNA officially announced
On January 16, 2025, WWE announced a multi-year partnership with TNA Wrestling, which WWE identified as an Anthem Sports & Entertainment subsidiary. The announcement described a talent and programming arrangement: NXT and TNA performers could appear across weekly WWE and TNA programming, select WWE Premium Live Events, and TNA pay-per-views. It did not disclose acquisition terms. WWE’s announcement also described TNA+ as TNA’s own on-demand subscription service.
What was reported about WWE’s rights
On August 15, 2025, Bleacher Report, citing Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, reported that WWE had “an option for a certain length of time” to purchase TNA. The story also reported that WWE had a right of first refusal, which it described as allowing WWE to match an outside offer. Meltzer was reported as saying the arrangement could help ensure that a future buyer was “friendly” to WWE. These are reported claims, not terms disclosed by WWE or TNA in the public partnership announcement. Bleacher Report’s account does not provide the underlying contract.
Purchase option and right of first refusal are different
- Purchase option: As reported, an ability for WWE to buy TNA within an unspecified period.
- Right of first refusal: As reported, an ability for WWE to match an outside offer.
The available reporting does not explain the legal mechanics of either right beyond those descriptions. No competing offers or alternative contract terms are documented in the sources reviewed.

What the public information does not establish
The sources do not state the reported option’s duration, purchase price, triggering conditions, or scope. They also do not establish whether it remains in effect, was exercised or amended, or expired. Without those details, the possible consequences for TNA’s ownership or future cannot be treated as established outcomes.

TNA and AMC later announced a multi-year television agreement for TNA’s weekly flagship program, with a January 15, 2026 launch date stated in the announcement. That is a separate development; it does not confirm the reported purchase option or clarify its status. TNA and AMC’s announcement describes the television agreement.
