WT Microelectronics completed its acquisition of Future Electronics on April 2, 2024. The deal was announced in September 2023 at an enterprise value of US$3.8 billion; WT later reported adjusted final consideration of US$3.796333 billion after a contract adjustment. The acquisition transferred all of Future Electronics’ shares to a WT-backed Canadian joint venture.
Did WT Microelectronics acquire Future Electronics?
Yes. WT Microelectronics and Future Electronics announced the agreement on September 14, 2023, and WT confirmed that it closed on April 2, 2024. The 2024 completion announcement described the resulting group as dual-headquartered in Taipei and Montreal.
WT’s 2024 annual report says its Canadian joint venture, WT Morrihan Investment Limited, acquired all Future Electronics shares. The agreement had been unanimously approved by both companies’ boards and was subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. The company announcements confirm completion but do not detail individual regulatory decisions or the approval timeline.
How much did WT pay for Future Electronics?

The two amounts describe different reported deal figures, not a contradiction: the first was the announced enterprise value, while the second was the later adjusted final consideration. WT said it intended to fund the transaction with cash on hand and committed debt financing provided by DBS Bank.

Why did WT Microelectronics buy Future Electronics?
WT presented the businesses as complementary in products, customer coverage and geographic reach. Its stated objectives were to expand in the Americas and EMEA, offer a wider range of products and application-engineering expertise, and strengthen logistics and supply-chain services. Those are management’s strategic aims; the announcements do not establish that the expected synergies have been realized.
What was Future Electronics’ scale at the time of the deal?
In the September 2023 announcement, the companies reported Future Electronics revenue of US$2.9 billion, operating income of US$228 million and net income of US$184 million for the six months ended June 30, 2023. These are half-year figures, not full-year results.

At completion, WT reported that Future Electronics operated in 44 countries through 159 offices. WT also described the combined group as serving more than 25,000 customers worldwide and working with more than 400 suppliers. These are company-reported footprint figures from the completion announcement, not independently verified measures of current operations.

WT’s 2025 financial report recorded NT$84,719,952 thousand in identifiable net assets and NT$28,611,359 thousand in goodwill for the acquisition. These are acquisition-accounting amounts reported by WT; they are distinct from the purchase consideration and do not, on their own, demonstrate the deal’s effect on earnings or whether anticipated synergies were achieved.
