Not as a confirmed saving. The often-quoted “75% cheaper than Concorde” figure is a projection, not a price for tickets currently on sale. Boom Supersonic says Overture fares should be similar to today’s business class, while a newer estimate for New York–London puts a seat at about one quarter of an equivalent Concorde seat. Neither statement is an independently verified fare or a complete like-for-like comparison.
What does “75% cheaper than Concorde” mean?
The figure comes from a 2022 Straits Times graphic about Overture. It said an Overture flight would “initially cost around 25 per cent more than a Business Class flight and around 75 per cent less than the Concorde.” The graphic’s footnote put a Concorde round trip at about US$12,000 in the 1990s.
That is a forecast, not a current Overture ticket price. The comparison does not specify a matched route, equivalent cabin or seat, fare rules, or an inflation adjustment for the 1990s figure. It therefore cannot establish how much a particular traveler would save on a particular itinerary.
What fare does Boom currently expect?
Boom’s current Overture page says the aircraft’s all-premium cabin will have fares “similar to today’s business class.” That describes the company’s pricing position, not a published fare, fare guarantee, or booking offer.

In a September 16, 2026 report, National Geographic attributed a more specific estimate to Boom CEO Blake Scholl: a New York–London seat could cost about one quarter of an equivalent Concorde seat, or roughly today’s business-class price. Scholl also said, “Supersonic flight can be affordable for tens of millions of passengers.” That is a company aspiration; it does not demonstrate current affordability or availability.

Are Overture tickets on sale?
No ticket inventory, fare schedule, or booking date is established by these sources. Overture is still a development program, not a passenger service. National Geographic reported Boom’s target for a first commercial flight as 2030; that is a target, not a guaranteed launch date. The report also said Boom had not yet flown passengers at supersonic speed.

Boom lists United Airlines, American Airlines, and Japan Airlines as having orders or pre-orders for Overture aircraft. That does not establish that any airline has announced an operating route, put seats on sale, or committed to a particular fare.
Why the Concorde comparison needs care
A useful fare comparison would match the route, one-way or round-trip journey, cabin and seat type, booking conditions, currency, date, and inflation basis. The 2022 graphic gives a 1990s round-trip figure without a route or inflation treatment. The newer estimate names New York–London but remains a company estimate, and the sources do not provide a corresponding historical Concorde fare calculation.

Boom’s 2024 retrospective says Concorde began regular service in 1976 and made its last flight in October 2003. It connects restrictive fares and maintenance costs with Concorde’s retirement; that is Boom’s account, not a complete independent explanation of the aircraft’s end of service. The retrospective also gives Overture a design capacity of 64–80 passengers and says Boom identified over 600 routes it considers profitable. Those are design and company estimates, not proof of future schedules, demand, or ticket prices. Boom’s 2024 retrospective also cites a study in which 97% of global premium passengers were interested and 87% said they would switch airlines, but the cited passage does not provide enough study-method detail to treat those results as population-wide demand estimates.

Price expectations depend on an aircraft entering service and on the rules governing supersonic operations. The FAA’s supersonic-flight page, updated July 9, 2026, says two proposed rules are in progress, covering noise-based operational certification and acceptable noise thresholds. The agency aims to finalize both by mid-2027. That regulatory work is part of the operating picture; it is not confirmation that Overture will launch on a particular date or price.
