That was a dated rating snapshot, not a current recommendation: Zacks later reported IVR at Rank #5 (Strong Sell) on September 4, 2026.
Why Zacks upgraded IVR in March 2026
Zacks Equity Research said its March 31, 2026 upgrade reflected an upward trend in earnings estimates for Invesco Mortgage Capital. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for fiscal 2026 had risen 2.3% over the preceding three months, and the report cited expected fiscal-year earnings per share of $2.25. These figures describe that March snapshot, not current forecasts. Zacks’ March 31, 2026 report attributed the move to estimate revisions.

Zacks said Rank #2 (Buy) placed IVR among the top 20% of stocks it covered by estimate revisions. The ranking is based on changes in earnings estimates and is presented by Zacks as an indicator of near-term stock movement; it is not a promise of a gain or a measure of whether a stock suits a particular investor.
Is IVR still rated Buy by Zacks?
No—not in the later dated snapshot available here. Zacks reported IVR at Rank #5 (Strong Sell) on September 4, 2026, after the March upgrade. That article gave a fiscal 2026 EPS consensus of $1.97, down 16.17% from the former year, and cited a $7.20 closing share price for its referenced trading session. These are figures reported at that time, not current estimates or market data. Zacks’ September 4, 2026 article establishes the later rank observation; ratings and forecasts can change again.

What Invesco Mortgage Capital invests in
IVR is a mortgage REIT, not a conventional REIT whose main business is owning and operating properties. Invesco Mortgage Capital says it invests in agency residential mortgage-backed securities and agency commercial mortgage-backed securities. These agency assets may have implicit or explicit U.S. government backing through Ginnie Mae, Fannie Mae, or Freddie Mac.

- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
The company says its objective is to generate income for stockholders by investing in agency assets using leverage, primarily through repurchase agreements collateralized by agency mortgage-backed securities. That model makes financing costs, interest rates, security valuations, leverage, and book value relevant context when considering earnings estimates or a rating change. Invesco Mortgage Capital’s investor overview describes its strategy.

How to interpret the upgrade
- It described estimate momentum at a point in time. The March Buy rank followed upward revisions to Zacks’ fiscal 2026 estimate, but the later September snapshot showed a lower rank and reduced EPS consensus.
- A rank is not a standalone assessment of the business. Zacks’ rating methodology emphasizes earnings-estimate changes; IVR’s mortgage-security portfolio and use of leverage add company-specific considerations such as financing costs and book-value movements.
- Reported earnings measures are not interchangeable. Net income is distinct from earnings available for distribution, which the company identifies as non-GAAP. Likewise, economic debt-to-equity is a non-GAAP measure.
- Historical ratings and figures are not personalized investment advice. Consider the dates, methodology, company results, and your own circumstances rather than treating a past rank as a buy or sell instruction.
