March 2025: suit seeking a change in trust leadership
In March 2025, the sisters filed a further lawsuit alleging that Danny Bennett breached fiduciary duties. They sought his removal as head of the family trust and alleged self-interested transactions and financial benefits to him and his company. Danny Bennett’s response
A spokesperson for Danny Bennett rejected the 2025 lawsuit. AP quoted the spokesperson as saying: “This lawsuit is yet another baseless attempt to distort the public and the court’s understanding of Tony Bennett’s clearly stated wishes.” The spokesperson also said Danny “has followed his father’s plans with integrity and care.” These statements represent his side’s response; they do not establish that a court has accepted it.
What is known about Tony Bennett and the estate
Tony Bennett died in 2023 at age 96. AP reported that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016; that diagnosis by itself does not establish incapacity or resolve questions about the trust. Bennett released more than 70 albums and received 19 competitive Grammy Awards, but the available reporting does not provide a settled, independently verified total for his estate or the catalogue transaction.
