The company cited a conflict between Elon Musk’s statements and the values it says Tesla represents, but it did not announce a sale or return of the Teslas already in service.
What ROSSMANN announced
In its 6 August 2024 announcement, ROSSMANN said it would acquire no further Tesla vehicles for its fleet, effective immediately. It planned to keep using its existing Teslas “for reasons of resource conservation” and choose alternative manufacturers and models for future vehicle orders. The announcement did not name those alternatives.
Why the company gave for the decision
ROSSMANN described its reasoning as an incompatibility between statements by Tesla CEO Elon Musk and the values Tesla represents through its products. The company’s spokesperson for management, Raoul Roßmann, specifically pointed to Musk’s support for Donald Trump. Roßmann said Trump had repeatedly called climate change a hoax and argued that this position conflicted with Tesla’s mission, as ROSSMANN characterized it, of contributing to environmental protection by producing electric cars. These are the company’s stated judgments, not a separate finding about Tesla’s mission or the effect of its decision.
What the decision means for the fleet
- No new Teslas: ROSSMANN said it would stop adding Tesla vehicles to its corporate fleet.
- Existing vehicles stay in use: The announcement said the retailer would continue using Teslas it already had, citing resource conservation.
- Future orders shift elsewhere: ROSSMANN said it would turn to alternative manufacturers and models, without specifying which ones.
So, the announcement was a purchasing decision, not a claim that ROSSMANN had immediately removed every Tesla from its fleet.

How a later company decision differed
In May 2025, Danish construction company Tscherning said it had returned its Tesla company cars in response to Musk’s political engagement and public opinions, and planned to acquire European alternatives. Its statement, reported by Electrek and Business Standard, said the decision was not because Tesla had become a bad car. Tscherning’s return of existing vehicles was different from ROSSMANN’s 2024 plan to retain and continue using its Teslas.
