Why Ring of Honor’s Video Library Matters: Archive Scope, HonorClub Access and Cultural Value

The Ring of Honor video library is valuable as a historical and editorial record. Here is what its public sources say about scope, HonorClub access and what remains unknown.

The Ring of Honor (ROH) video library is valuable mainly as a historical record. It was included in the assets ROH acquired, it reaches back to 2002, and HonorClub advertises more than 2,500 hours of it. Its worth is editorial and cultural: it preserves the promotion’s own history, lets fans revisit matches and performers from different eras, and gives current programming a longer context. No public source establishes a dollar value for the library, so this article does not offer one.

What the public sources say the library contains

Four official or near-official sources describe the archive. They do not all measure the same thing, so it helps to read them side by side.

Source Date What it establishes
ROH’s official About page Not stated The acquisition included ROH’s extensive video library “dating back to 2002,” along with brand assets, intellectual property and production equipment.
AEW announcement of the HonorClub relaunch December 11, 2022 More than 2,500 hours of content dating back to 2002, including classic matches from the full ROH television archive and hundreds of pay-per-views and special events. It listed the ROH app on iOS, Android, Roku and Amazon Fire TV.
HonorClub TV Archive page Checked October 8, 2026 Advertises over 2,500 hours of classic ROH moments and matches.
ROH app listing on Google Play Not stated Describes thousands of hours of archive video on demand. HonorClub access is described as including the ROHTV archive, past live events, special features and pay-per-views. The listing notes that aspect ratios may differ between programs.

Read together, these sources establish the scope of what is advertised and what ROH owns. They do not establish that every recording ROH acquired is online, or that the advertised hours are all unique footage.

Where to find the archive

There is no separate “vault” product. Fans sometimes use that word for the collection, but the official access point is HonorClub, and its TV Archive page is the place where ROH advertises the library. The page’s current wording is: “Subscribe to HonorClub today and you’ll have access to over 2500 hours of classic ROH moments & matches!” That line describes an organizational offer, not a quotation from a named person.

#1 Best Overall

Before you subscribe, confirm three things:

  • That the program you want is listed in the archive. The advertised hours describe the service as a whole, not a searchable inventory.
  • That your device is supported. The 2022 announcement listed iOS, Android, Roku and Amazon Fire TV. Platform support changes, so check the current app listing for your device.
  • Whether the picture format matters to you. The Google Play listing warns that aspect ratios may differ, which can affect older programs.

Why historical preservation is the core value

A wrestling promotion’s history exists mostly as footage. Television broadcasts, pay-per-views and special events are the record of who worked for the company, how matches were built and how the audience responded in a given year. An archive that reaches back to 2002 keeps that record attached to the promotion that produced it.

The acquisition also matters for what it bundled. The library arrived alongside brand assets, intellectual property and production equipment. That combination suggests the footage belongs to the identity of the promotion, not just to a catalogue of past shows. This is an interpretation of the listed assets, not a statement by ROH about its intent.

What the sources do not show is the physical condition of the original media, how it was digitized, or what it cost to preserve. Those are real questions for any archive, but the public record does not answer them.

Revisiting matches and performers across eras

The advertised scope spans several kinds of content: television, classic matches, pay-per-views and special events. That range is what makes the library useful for comparison. A viewer can watch a performer’s early television work, later pay-per-view matches and special-event appearances in the same service, and judge development over time without relying on memory or clips.

Rank #3

This use is editorial. It does not depend on the library’s commercial performance, and it does not require any particular number of hours to be meaningful. A smaller archive with the right matches would serve the same purpose. The advertised figure only tells you how much breadth to expect.

How the archive relates to current programming

ROH’s homepage currently promotes current ROH television on HonorClub, alongside named current and recent events. The archive and new programming therefore sit inside the same service. A fan who watches a new show can follow a rivalry or a performer’s background back into older footage without leaving the platform.

That connection is a reasonable reading of how the service is organized. The sources do not measure its effect on viewing, and no public figure shows whether archive viewing changes how long subscribers stay.

What the hour counts can and cannot tell you

Both hour figures come from the publishers that advertise them. The 2022 relaunch announcement described more than 2,500 hours, and the current TV Archive page describes over 2,500 hours. These figures show the breadth of the advertised service. They do not reveal how much of that material is unique, whether every acquisition-era recording is included, or how many of the hours are full matches versus shorter segments.

Best Value

What the public record does not establish

  • A financial value. No public source gives a valuation, revenue contribution or appraisal for the library. For personal-finance purposes, the library should not be treated as a measurable asset.
  • Restoration or digitization costs. The sources do not disclose what was spent to preserve or digitize the footage.
  • A complete inventory or rights clearance. No itemized catalogue, match-by-match rights review or completeness audit has been published.
  • Effects on subscriptions. The record does not show whether the archive affects subscriber growth or retention.
  • A stated motive from leadership. No named executive is quoted in the official sources explaining why the library matters, so this article does not attribute one.

Who the archive suits best

  • Fans who want to follow a performer’s or promotion’s history across several years.
  • Viewers who watch current ROH television and want the context behind current storylines.
  • Researchers and writers who want primary footage rather than secondhand clips, provided they verify availability of specific programs first.

For a casual viewer who only watches new shows, the archive adds depth but is not required to follow current programming.
