Porsche’s reported May 2024 discussions with Chinese dealers were about adapting business strategies and customer service to changing market conditions. The company said it wanted to work more closely with retailers, but it did not announce a new dealer policy or specific measures. Later figures show that Porsche continued to face pressure in China; they do not establish that the talks changed dealer relations or caused subsequent sales results.

What did Porsche discuss with its Chinese dealers?

On May 28, 2024, The Business Times, carrying a Bloomberg report, said Porsche was in discussions with Chinese retailers about how to adapt business strategies and customer service to market changes. Porsche offered little public detail about what a new direction might involve.

The same account attributed reports of dealer objections to sales targets and requests for compensation to Chinese media. Those claims were not presented as detailed findings or confirmed measures announced by Porsche. The available account does not establish whether targets were changed, compensation was paid, or the discussions resolved disagreements.

How serious was the China sales decline?

Porsche’s fiscal 2025 report recorded 41,938 customer deliveries in China, including Hong Kong, a 26.3% year-over-year decline. Porsche attributed the pressure to difficult conditions in the luxury segment and intense competition in China, particularly for all-electric models. These are the company’s stated explanations, not proof that dealer relations caused the decline.

The comparison with worldwide results shows the scale of the regional drop, but the figures measure customer deliveries, not unit sales:

Geography and period Customer deliveries Year-over-year change
China, including Hong Kong, fiscal 2025 41,938 Down 26.3%
Worldwide, fiscal 2025 279,449 Down 10.1%

The regional and global figures come from Porsche AG’s fiscal 2025 reporting, issued in 2026. They should not be read as directly equivalent to unit sales, a separate measure.

What role did EV demand play?

In September 2025, Porsche described slower growth in demand for electric vehicles and announced product-strategy changes. These included delaying certain all-electric models and redesigning a planned EV platform for the 2030s. Porsche said its planned battery-electric lineup included the Taycan, Macan, Cayenne and a future sports car in the 718 segment, alongside combustion and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Executive Oliver Blume said the company wanted to serve different customer requirements with “a convincing mix of combustion engines, plug-in hybrids and battery-electric vehicles.” That strategy reflects a portfolio response to changing demand; it does not establish what was agreed with Chinese dealers in 2024.

What do the later EV and delivery figures show?

Porsche’s fiscal 2025 model figures were global, not China-specific: it delivered 16,339 Taycans, down 21.6%, and 45,367 electric Macans within 84,328 total Macan deliveries. These counts cannot be used as China EV sales.

In the first half of 2026, Porsche reported 122,306 worldwide deliveries, compared with 146,391 in the first half of 2025. Battery-electric vehicles made up 19.4% of its automotive share in H1 2026, versus 23.5% a year earlier. Those are global measures; the cited H1 release does not provide a China-specific delivery figure. CEO Michael Leiters said, “However, we still have a lot of work ahead of us to position Porsche robustly for the challenging future.”

What can—and cannot—be concluded about the dealer talks?

The public record supports a limited conclusion: Porsche and its Chinese retailers discussed adapting strategy and customer service to market changes, while aiming to work more closely together. Subsequent company reporting documents a steep China delivery decline and describes challenging luxury-market conditions, strong competition and slower EV-demand growth. It does not show whether the dealer discussions produced specific changes or affected sales.
