The exchange upgrade preserved active-market positions, according to Polymarket’s Help Center notice, but cleared pre-upgrade open orders. To trade again, users needed to approve the new exchange contracts; API traders also needed to update their software and order signing.
First, distinguish a position from an open order
A “bet” can refer to two different things:
- A position is outcome exposure—such as YES or NO shares—connected to the market’s condition.
- An open order is an instruction to buy or sell at specified terms that is waiting in the exchange’s order book. Until it matches, it is not the same as a position.
Polymarket describes each market as being tied to a condition prepared using the Conditional Token Framework (CTF). The exchange is a separate layer that matches orders to trade those outcome tokens. What happened to positions and orders in the 2026 upgrade?

The position and open-order outcomes come from Polymarket’s CLOB V2 upgrade notice and migration guide. The Help Center notice is dated July 17, 2026; its stated continuity rule is general and does not establish the cause of every account-specific display issue.
Why the exchange upgrade did not translate old orders
Polymarket says CLOB V2 went live on April 28, 2026. The upgrade introduced new exchange contracts, a rewritten order-book backend, a changed order structure and signing domain, and pUSD collateral in place of USDC.e. The migration guide says V1-signed orders are no longer supported in production and that open orders from before the cutover were wiped.

An old resting order was therefore not simply transferred as a live V2 instruction: it had been signed for the old exchange protocol, while V2 uses different contracts and order-signing rules. Recreating the order requires a fresh decision and a new V2 order; this avoids treating an old instruction as though it had automatically been authorized under the new system.
What users needed to do to trade again
If you use polymarket.com
Polymarket’s migration guide says the website handles wrapping USDC.e into pUSD through its migration flow. Users need to approve the new exchange contracts as prompted. The guide describes the approval as a one-time step.

If you trade through an API
Update the integration to a V2 SDK or revise raw order signing to match the new order structure and exchange domain. V1-signed orders are not accepted on production. The guide also describes wrapping USDC.e into pUSD through the Collateral Onramp contract for power users and API-only traders.
If you had an open order
Check the current order book and, if you still want the trade, submit a new order using the V2 flow. Do not assume that an old limit order remains active simply because the market or your position still appears in your account.

Does the upgrade change how a market resolves?
No change to a market’s event condition or resolution terms follows merely from changing the exchange used to submit orders. The CTF condition and its resolution path are distinct from the CLOB’s order-matching system. Polymarket’s legacy UMA documentation describes the condition and oracle relationship; the V2 migration guide describes exchange changes, not a rewrite of market outcomes.
