Polymarket bets appeared in several Google News surfaces in April 2026, but Google said the site had been included in error and was no longer appearing in News. The available reporting documents a brief incident, not evidence that Google News is still prominently featuring Polymarket bets.
What happened in Google News?
In an April 9, 2026 report, Futurism described Polymarket event-contract listings appearing in Google News’ personalized “For you” feed, on the homepage, and in search results. Examples included contracts about Bitcoin’s short-term price and App Store rankings. For a search about Strait of Hormuz shipping, Futurism reported that a Polymarket contract appeared alongside coverage from established publishers. The report also said users could select Polymarket as a source.
Futurism reported Google’s response, which it said was given to The Verge: “This site briefly appeared in Google News in error, and it is no longer surfacing in News.” The statement is available here as quoted by Futurism; the direct Google statement and The Verge article were not independently reviewed.
Did Google remove Polymarket from News?
Google’s reported statement says the site was no longer surfacing in News after the brief appearance. The evidence supports describing this as a reported inclusion followed by removal. It does not establish whether Polymarket appeared for every user, how many people saw it, or whether it might appear again. Futurism’s examples are observations from its April report, not a current audit of individual feeds.

Accordingly, the title’s suggestion that Google News is “now prominently featuring” Polymarket bets is not supported as a current claim. The sourced account is dated April 9, 2026, and Google characterized the appearance as an error.
Are prediction-market odds the same as journalism?
No. A Polymarket contract presents a question about an event and market-generated odds based on users’ bets. A news article presents reported claims that readers can evaluate through its sources, reporting, and editorial process. Odds may reflect traders’ positions; they are not independently verified facts or a substitute for reporting.

When a contract and news stories appear together in a feed or search, their placement can make the distinction less obvious. Readers should check what an item actually is, what sources it provides, and whether it is reporting or a market listing before treating it as evidence about an event. The April report documents the juxtaposition, not a full audit of Google’s labeling or content-eligibility rules.

In a separate May 28, 2026 report, the Associated Press covered prosecutors’ allegation that a Google employee used confidential search-trend data to trade on Polymarket. AP attributed the charge to a federal complaint; an allegation is not a finding of guilt.
