Mary Street Bakery’s Claremont outlet closed in the lead-up to Christmas 2023, three years after it opened in 2020. Owner Paul Aron told PerthNow the location “had never worked for our business model.” The bakery’s current store listing does not include Claremont, but available sources do not establish what now occupies the former premises.
When did Mary Street Bakery Claremont close?
PerthNow reported on 3 January 2024 that the outlet closed in the lead-up to Christmas 2023, after operating for three years. The bakery had opened the Claremont location in 2020. PerthNow’s January 2024 report is a dated account of the closure, not a current reopening announcement.
What reason did the owner give?
Owner Paul Aron told PerthNow that the decision to close was made because the store “had never worked for our business model.” That is the owner’s reported explanation; the report does not provide independent financial analysis of the outlet.
There was a difference between the wording of a customer notice and the owner’s account. The printed notice said the Claremont store had “suspended operations” and referred to a “hiatus.” Aron told PerthNow that the decision was to close the store. The notice’s wording should not be taken on its own as confirmation of a temporary pause or planned return.

Was the Claremont location going to reopen?
In January 2024, Aron said the business was reassessing the model for that location and had not decided what it would become. That statement described the situation at the time; it did not confirm a reopening or a replacement format. The sources available do not establish whether the business later reconsidered reopening there.
