JPMorganChase has built a broad AI program, using machine learning and generative AI in areas that include fraud screening, software development, treasury services, markets, and wealth management. The company reports substantial employee adoption and operational results. But the available figures are JPMorgan’s own disclosures, and they do not establish that it is more AI-advanced than every other bank.
How much does JPMorgan spend on AI?
JPMorganChase has not disclosed an AI-only spending figure in the cited materials. In her 2025 annual-report letter, published April 6, 2026, Chief Operating Officer Jennifer A. Piepszak said the firm’s technology budget for 2026 was approximately $19.8 billion. That is the overall technology budget—not an AI budget—and it should not be read as the amount spent on AI.
Piepszak said the company had worked on advanced machine learning and AI for more than a decade, citing reported benefits in credit, fraud, and personalization. She also described generative AI as being deployed at enterprise scale, with the stated aims of speeding development, improving operational efficiency, and strengthening risk management. These are company statements about its strategy and results, not independent evaluations. JPMorganChase 2025 annual-report letter
Where does JPMorgan use AI?
JPMorgan’s disclosures describe AI in both long-running analytical and machine-learning systems and newer generative-AI tools. Its 2026 company-update transcript says the number of generative-AI use cases in production doubled that year, while naming customer service, call-center efficiency, personalized client insights, and software engineering as areas of focus. The company does not provide a like-for-like inventory of every bank’s production deployments, so this breadth is evidence of a sizable program rather than a ranking.

Fraud and transaction screening
The company says machine learning and analytical AI have supported fraud detection for years. In its Commercial & Investment Bank (CIB), leadership reported that AI-assisted transaction screening let the bank review more than twice the volume while halving manual operator checks. Those are company-reported outcomes; the disclosure does not provide a measurement method or independent validation. CIB co-CEOs’ 2025 annual-report letter
Software engineering and internal generative AI
JPMorgan describes LLM Suite as an internal generative-AI platform. The company says employees are moving beyond brainstorming and summarization toward using internal APIs to connect its generative-AI capabilities with business applications and everyday workflows.
CIB co-CEOs Douglas B. Petno and Troy Rohrbaugh reported in the 2025 annual-report letter that more than 90% of CIB engineers used AI code assistants and over 65,000 CIB colleagues actively used LLM Suite. Both figures apply to CIB, not necessarily the entire firm. They indicate adoption at scale within that business, but do not by themselves establish how frequently each person uses the tools or what productivity gains result.
Treasury and markets
For corporate treasury clients, JPMorgan describes a cash-flow forecasting tool intended to help with liquidity management. In markets and Prime Finance, the company says AI is used to manage securities inventory, sharpen pricing, support risk management, and improve capital efficiency. These descriptions identify use cases; the cited materials do not quantify their client or financial impact. CIB co-CEOs’ 2025 annual-report letter

Asset management and wealth management
In its 2025 annual-report letter, Asset Management chief executive Mary Callahan Erdoes described SpectrumIQ, a proprietary suite embedded in Spectrum that combines research, data, and risk information. JPMorgan says the tools cover about 90,000 securities and 22 million documents, and reports an 80% reduction in the time from manual research to insight. The company also describes a SpectrumIQ stewardship workflow analyzing proprietary data from more than 3,000 company meetings in U.S. equity markets. JPMorgan says it was the first major asset manager to fully disengage from external proxy advisors for U.S. voting; that “first” claim is the company’s own.
For wealth management, the same letter describes Connect Coach, a set of 25 specialized AI agents that supplies personalized outreach ideas to advisors. JPMorgan reports that the system delivered one million custom AI-driven insights in real time to 5,000 global private-bank users. These are company-reported deployment and outcome figures, not independently audited performance measures. Asset Management CEO’s 2025 annual-report letter
What do the scale figures actually show?
The disclosures point to meaningful investment, deployment, and adoption, but the figures have different scopes and should not be combined into a single measure of AI capability.

Is JPMorgan really the most AI-advanced bank?
The evidence supports calling JPMorgan a large-scale, broadly deployed AI user. It does not prove that the firm is the single most AI-advanced bank. The cited sources are primarily JPMorgan’s own disclosures, and they do not compare banks on a common basis or independently assess the results.
A credible comparison would need comparable evidence across several dimensions:
- Production breadth: the number and importance of AI systems actually in use, measured consistently across banks.
- Employee adoption: users and usage rates with clear denominators and business-line scope.
- Validated outcomes: independently evaluated operational, financial, or customer effects, with methods and baselines stated.
- AI-specific investment: disclosed AI spending, separated from broader technology budgets.
- Governance: evidence about data quality, model-risk controls, oversight, and safeguards, not only descriptions of intended practices.
JPMorgan says its models connect to well-governed data and that safeguards are designed to protect clients, the firm, and the financial system. That describes the company’s stated approach; the cited materials do not independently test whether those safeguards work as intended. Without common competitor data and independent assessment, “most AI-advanced” is best treated as the video’s thesis, not a verified ranking. What this means for bank customers
The disclosures show that AI is being applied to internal operations and business services, including fraud screening, cash-flow forecasting, research, and advisor workflows. They do not establish that every customer uses these tools, that a particular consumer banking feature is powered by AI, or that the reported efficiency gains translate into lower fees, better rates, or improved service for every client. For customers, the practical takeaway is to judge a banking service by its terms, reliability, and protections—not by a broad claim that its provider leads in AI.
