Investors are betting that player-made games and experiences will become a bigger part of the video game business—and that developers will need better tools to run them. Gamebeast founder Zander Brumbaugh makes that case through his experience building Roblox games and a software platform for developers. Its $3.7 million pre-seed round signals investor interest, not proof that user-generated content (UGC) will dominate gaming.
Why does UGC attract investor interest?
UGC shifts players from being only an audience to also being creators. On platforms such as Roblox, a player can build an experience for others to play. Brumbaugh argues that accessible creation tools let people make games they enjoy, and may give some a path to earn income from that work.
“I think people being able to creatively express themselves and make games that they themselves enjoy, and then also turn that into a profitable hobby, or in many cases, a career, that’s a really exciting thing,” Brumbaugh said in a TechCrunch Equity interview published October 9, 2024. That is the founder’s thesis: more creators and player-made experiences could create opportunity, while also creating a need for operational tools.
Bain & Company’s 2024 report estimated that 80% of gamers had played a game with UGC and one in seven had created game content. These are Bain’s estimates for 2024, not current universal participation figures; the methodology and population details are not established here. They suggest activity around UGC, but do not by themselves show that it will displace professionally developed games.

What does Gamebeast do for Roblox developers?
TechCrunch described Gamebeast as providing LiveOps and A/B testing tools for Roblox developers. LiveOps refers to managing and improving a game while it is running, rather than treating launch as the end of development. According to TechCrunch’s description of the company, developers can make changes without releasing a new game version or interrupting an active session. This is a reported product description, not an independent assessment of the service.
A/B testing lets a developer compare versions of an experience or feature to see how players respond. Together, these tools address the practical work behind UGC: creators need to maintain experiences, make decisions about changes, and learn how those changes affect players. An ecosystem with many creator-led games could make that support valuable, but the existence of a tool provider does not establish how widely the tools are used or whether they improve business results.
How does Brumbaugh’s experience shape the case?
Brumbaugh has said he started making Roblox content at 12 and taught himself Lua and the Roblox engine. TechCrunch reported his claim that his self-developed games had accumulated more than 500 million visits and peaked above 80,000 concurrent users. Those figures are his account as reported by TechCrunch in a September 18, 2024 profile, not independently verified performance data.
That background connects the investment argument to a developer’s needs. In the TechCrunch profile, Brumbaugh said entertainment studio clients consistently expected standard tools for data-informed decisions, but that such tools did not exist for the space. Gamebeast’s premise is that UGC developers also need ways to operate and measure their games—not just tools to create them.

What does the funding show—and what does it not show?
TechCrunch reported in 2024 that Gamebeast raised $3.7 million in a pre-seed round led by J2 Ventures, with participation from a16z Speedrun. Gamebeast’s funding announcement, published in 2025, also named The Mini Fund and Spaceport CEO Le Zhang. The round is evidence that investors chose to back this company and its thesis; it is not proof of product-market fit, profitability, or the future size of UGC.
Gamebeast and its investors have also described plans to expand to additional platforms and build AI-driven analytics and data insights. Those are announced intentions; the available reporting does not establish that every plan was subsequently delivered. The company’s current product access, pricing, integrations, revenue, and user metrics are likewise not established by the cited coverage.

Where might AI fit into creator tools?
Brumbaugh acknowledged that AI in creative work can provoke community resistance. In the TechCrunch interview, he said, “You can’t really discuss AI, especially in creative spaces, without there being an immediate knee-jerk negative reaction from a lot of people in the community,” and argued that models could be integrated into workflows to make development easier.
That is a view about potential use, not evidence that AI features have been shipped or adopted by Gamebeast customers. The investor logic is that analytics and other workflow assistance may help developers manage increasingly complex experiences; whether those features prove useful depends on their execution and developers’ willingness to use them.

What would determine whether the investment thesis works?
UGC’s growth alone would not guarantee success for every platform or software company serving creators. A platform must attract creators and players, while tools must solve recurring problems well enough that developers keep using them. For a creator ecosystem, the relevant questions include:
- Creation and publishing: How easily can users build and release an experience?
- Built-in creator tools: What support does the platform itself provide?
- Live iteration: Can developers update and test experiences while players are active?
- Analytics: Can creators understand how players use and respond to their work?
- Creator income: Can creators earn from their efforts, and on what terms?
The TechCrunch interview mentions Roblox and Fortnite Creative as examples, but does not provide comparable platform data. It therefore supports the broad case for creator tools, not a ranking of those ecosystems or a conclusion that one will win.
