The report called it the stock’s biggest one-day loss since its March 2024 public listing. It did not establish a single cause for the selloff.
What happened to Truth Social stock?
“Truth Social stock” is a common shorthand for shares of Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), the company that operates the social platform. Its shares trade under the ticker DJT. TMTG says public trading under that ticker began on March 26, 2024, according to its investor-relations FAQ.
On Wednesday, October 30, 2024, DJT shares fell 22.3%, Futurism reported. The outlet described the decline as the largest one-day loss since the company went public in March. That is a historical ranking within the period covered by the October 2024 report—not a claim that the session remains the stock’s worst day through October 2026.
The reported figure is a one-day percentage change. It should not be confused with the largest dollar loss, the lowest intraday price, or the stock’s performance over a longer period. The available reporting does not include a primary exchange record for that session or an independently verified October 30 closing price.

Why did DJT stock fall?
The reason was not established. Futurism said the cause was unclear and discussed election-related expectations and fading momentum after a rally as possible interpretations. Those were explanations offered in contemporary coverage, not confirmed causes.
Futurism quoted Dan Ives, a senior equity analyst at Wedbush Securities, describing the company’s valuation as “a head scratcher” and comparing the stock’s narrative with AMC and GameStop. Ives also said that, with the election a week away, DJT had become “a litmus test for some investors on the White House race.” These are his opinions, not measured evidence that election expectations drove the October 30 decline.

In particular, the reported fall should not be presented as proven to have resulted from election odds, a specific political event, Truth Social user numbers, or TMTG’s later financial results. The contemporary report did not provide a definitive causal explanation.
What later company results do—and don’t—tell us
Later disclosures describe different periods and cannot establish what caused a particular trading session in 2024. TMTG’s second-quarter 2026 Form 10-Q reports the company’s financial position as of June 30, 2026. It lists approximately $1.863 billion across cash, cash equivalents, restricted cash, short-term investments, equity securities, a convertible note receivable, interest receivable, digital assets, and pledged digital assets; it also reports approximately $970.3 million in debt, excluding lease liabilities. The filing says the company launched the Truth API in August 2026. These details concern TMTG’s later business and balance sheet, not the October 2024 selloff.

The phrase needs a time boundary. In the October 2024 headline, “worst day ever” meant the largest one-day loss reported since DJT began public trading in March 2024. It was not a ranking across the stock’s entire future history. A later comparison would require a complete price series and a consistent measure—such as closing-to-closing percentage changes—rather than a comparison of an intraday low with a closing-price change.
