CrowdStrike stock can move sharply when investors revise what they expect the company to earn in the future—not simply because revenue rose or fell. Results and guidance influence estimates for growth, profitability, and risk; the valuation multiple investors are willing to pay for those expectations can magnify the share-price response. In its August 26, 2026, second-quarter fiscal 2027 release, CrowdStrike reported continued growth and raised its full-year outlook, but those facts alone do not establish why the stock moved in any particular session.
What CrowdStrike’s latest results say—and what they do not
CrowdStrike’s second quarter of fiscal 2027 ended July 31, 2026. In the company’s August 26 release, it reported total revenue of $1.47 billion, up 26% year over year, and subscription revenue of $1.40 billion, up 27%. Annual recurring revenue (ARR) was $5.84 billion as of July 31, up 25% year over year; the company added $332.8 million of net new ARR during the quarter. These are issuer-reported operating results, not measures of stock-price volatility.

The distinction matters. Revenue records business recognized during a period; ARR is a company-defined indicator of recurring subscription business at a point in time. Net new ARR tracks the addition to that recurring-revenue base during the quarter. Each can inform estimates, but none by itself says whether the stock is cheap, expensive, or likely to rise. A stock reaction depends on how results compare with expectations and how investors interpret the next period’s prospects.
The company also reported that first-half fiscal 2027 revenue was $2,856.5 million, up 26% year over year, and subscription revenue made up 95% of that period’s total. CrowdStrike attributed subscription growth to new customer additions and sales of additional sensors and modules to existing customers. That context makes customer acquisition and expansion relevant when assessing whether growth can continue, rather than treating the headline revenue increase as a complete picture.

Why a good quarter can still produce a falling share price
Markets react to the difference between reported performance and the expectations already reflected in estimates and the share price. A company can grow rapidly compared with the prior year and still disappoint if investors anticipated faster growth, stronger margins, or a more optimistic outlook. Conversely, a modest result can support a rally if forward guidance or other indicators are better than investors had expected.
That is why “beat” and “miss” need a comparison point. CrowdStrike’s year-over-year growth rates show how results compare with the year-earlier period. To say results beat or missed consensus, an analyst estimate, or the company’s own previous forecast requires a dated, reliable estimate or prior guidance figure. The figures available here do not establish a consensus dataset or the exact prior ranges, so they cannot support a claim that Q2 beat or missed analyst expectations by a particular amount.
Investors may also weigh the composition and durability of growth. ARR and net new ARR give context about additions to the recurring business, while reported subscription revenue reflects revenue recognized in the period. Customer expansion, retention, sales cycles, and whether customers adopt further products can influence expectations about future ARR. A quarter’s figures are evidence about one period; they are not a guarantee that the same pace will persist.

How guidance resets expectations
Guidance is management’s forecast range for future results. It can move a share price because it changes the forward frame investors use to value a company. CrowdStrike’s Q2 FY2027 release provided updated third-quarter and full-year fiscal 2027 ranges and raised its full-year guidance. The ranges below are the company’s guidance as reported in the August 26, 2026 release, not realized results.

| Full-year FY2027 | $6,603.0–$6,611.9 million | $5,991.1–$6,011.1 million |
George Kurtz, CrowdStrike’s founder and chief executive officer, characterized Q2 as “the best quarter in CrowdStrike’s history” and said the company was “raising our full year fiscal 2027 net new ARR growth outlook by 630 basis points.” Those are management’s descriptions of the quarter and its outlook, not an independent assessment. The quoted outlook language adds context to the company’s guidance, but does not disclose the prior and revised guidance ranges in the figures listed above.
To assess a guidance change, compare the new range with the immediately preceding company range for the same period and measure, then check whether subsequent reported results track the implied trajectory. Do not compare a quarter’s actual revenue directly with a full-year range, or treat ARR as interchangeable with revenue. The units, reporting period, and metric must match. Guidance is an estimate, not a promise; later execution, customer behavior, and business conditions can cause actual results to differ.
Why the quality of earnings and margins matters
Revenue growth alone does not determine how much value investors assign to a business. Investors also consider operating costs, profitability, cash generation, and the share count. A company growing quickly may face pressure if costs rise faster than revenue, while improving margins or cash generation can alter expectations even when revenue growth is steady. The figures in this snapshot do not provide a complete current comparison of margins, cash flow, or dilution, so those measures should be checked in the relevant financial statements rather than inferred from revenue and ARR.
Pay attention to the label on every profit figure. CrowdStrike’s non-GAAP guidance excludes stock-based compensation and related payroll taxes, acquired intangible amortization, acquisition-related costs, incident-related costs, and other adjustments. The company said it could not provide the most directly comparable GAAP guidance without unreasonable effort. Adjusted and GAAP results answer different questions: non-GAAP figures remove specified items under the company’s definition, while GAAP figures include expenses recognized under accounting rules. Comparing adjusted EPS from one period with GAAP EPS from another as though they were the same measure can distort the trend.
For an apples-to-apples comparison, use the same accounting basis across periods and identify the adjustments. When evaluating a non-GAAP measure, review the company’s definition and reconciliation to the comparable GAAP measure when available. Stock-based compensation also matters to shareholders because it is an expense under GAAP and can affect dilution; an adjusted measure excluding it does not make that economic consideration disappear.
How valuation can amplify good or bad news
A share price reflects expectations about future business performance, not just the latest quarter. A valuation multiple expresses the price investors assign relative to a financial measure such as sales, earnings, or free cash flow. If investors already expect strong growth, even continued growth may not be enough to support the same multiple. If expectations improve, the multiple can expand; if growth, profitability, or confidence weakens, it can contract. A change in the multiple can compound the effect of a change in expected results.
For a subscription software business, investors commonly examine price-to-sales or enterprise-value-to-sales, using either trailing or forward revenue. Earnings and free-cash-flow multiples can also be useful if the underlying measure is clearly defined and comparable. Each ratio requires a dated numerator and a specified denominator: market price or enterprise value on a stated date, and trailing or forecast revenue, earnings, or free cash flow for a stated period. Free-cash-flow definitions can differ, so the calculation should identify which definition it uses.

A ratio is a summary of assumptions about growth, margins, risk, and time; it does not independently predict the next move in the share price. How business risks can change investor confidence
Risk affects valuation because it changes the range of outcomes investors believe is plausible. CrowdStrike’s filings identify execution, product defects or vulnerabilities, competition, sales cycles, customer acquisition and retention, product acceptance, partner integration, technological change, macroeconomic conditions, inflation, and geopolitical uncertainty as risks. The company also says analyst research and reports influence trading in its common stock, and an inaccurate or unfavorable analyst opinion could cause the share price to decline. These disclosures describe possible channels through which expectations may change; they do not prove that any one factor caused a particular day’s move.
The July 19, 2024 Falcon sensor configuration update is a specific business risk with continuing relevance in company disclosures. CrowdStrike said the update caused crashes on some Windows systems and harmed its business, sales, customer and partner relationships, and reputation. It said some customers deferred purchases, terminated, or did not renew, expects continuing costs, and identified related legal proceedings. For investors, the issue can matter through potential costs, customer retention, sales activity, reputation, and uncertainty about future results. Its effect should be assessed using current company disclosures rather than assumed to have ended or assigned an unsupported dollar value.
A risk disclosure is not a forecast that every listed event will occur, and it does not quantify the effect of each risk on future results. It helps identify what could change the company’s performance or investors’ confidence. The fiscal 2026 Form 10-K was filed with the SEC on March 5, 2026, for the year ended January 31, 2026; later quarterly filings may add or update information, including the effects of the 2024 incident.

Do not infer a cause from a price chart alone. A move after an earnings release may reflect the results, guidance, commentary, positioning, broader market conditions, or more than one factor. To investigate a particular trading day, establish what information was public and when, then compare the share move with the relevant market and sector context.
Best Value
- Fix the date and time window. Identify the session, the size of the move, and whether the relevant news appeared before the market opened, during trading, or after the close. A release published after the close may be reflected in the next session rather than the day it was dated.
- Read the company’s actual release and filing. Separate reported results from guidance and management commentary. Note the period, units, accounting basis, and any updated range; do not treat an executive’s characterization as an audited metric.
- Compare like with like. Check current results against the preceding year, the immediately prior company guidance, and dated consensus estimates only if those estimates come from a reliable source. Keep total revenue, subscription revenue, ARR, and net new ARR distinct.
- Check the forward implications. Look for what changed in quarterly and annual guidance, and whether the change affects revenue, ARR, profitability, or cash generation. Record exclusions when evaluating non-GAAP guidance.
- Separate company-specific movement from market movement. Compare timing with broad-market and relevant sector performance, plus contemporaneous reporting or company announcements. If the stock moved alongside the market, that is context, not proof of a single cause.
- State the conclusion at the right level of certainty. Say which events coincided with the move and what the available evidence supports. Unless a reliable contemporaneous account establishes causation, do not claim a filing or operating metric proves why the stock moved.
What to compare when assessing CrowdStrike over time
A consistent comparison is more useful than cherry-picking whichever metric supports a bullish or bearish view. For each reporting period, track revenue and subscription revenue growth separately; ARR and net new ARR; the company’s current and full-year guidance and how it changed; GAAP and non-GAAP operating income, net income, EPS, and margins; and cash generation using a stated free-cash-flow definition. Add customer expansion and retention context where the company provides it, and review incident-related financial or customer effects in current disclosures.
For a peer or valuation comparison, keep the measurement date and denominator period consistent, distinguish trailing from forward figures, and account for differences in growth, profitability, accounting treatment, dilution, and risk. If a comparable figure is not disclosed or cannot be verified, mark it as unavailable rather than substituting an estimate. This discipline prevents a high growth rate, a favorable adjusted metric, or a single valuation ratio from standing in for a complete analysis.
What the latest snapshot cannot establish
The August 26, 2026 release establishes the operating figures and guidance above, but it does not by itself establish the market’s precise expectations before the announcement, the stock’s reaction relative to those expectations, or the cause of a particular session’s move. Nor do the operating-growth statistics measure share-price volatility. The available figures do not supply a point-in-time October 13, 2026 stock price, market capitalization, or valuation multiple. Those limits matter because the question “why did the stock move?” is about a market response, while a release principally documents company performance and outlook.
