The main agreement is expected to add 890 megawatts (MW) of nuclear capacity at 11 Constellation units, backed by more than $4.3 billion in planned investment. A separate 15-year agreement covers another 2,700 MW of power in PJM. The announcement was a positive catalyst for CEG shares, but it does not reveal enough contract economics to calculate the deal’s effect on earnings or determine what the stock is worth.
Why did Constellation Energy stock jump?
Investors reacted to a long-term power commitment from one of the largest technology companies, alongside plans for Constellation to expand output from its existing nuclear fleet. The agreement offers a visible demand signal and a route to add generating capacity without building a new reactor.
The size of the reported move depends on when it was measured. Reuters reported CEG up more than 13% at $304.04 in mid-morning trading on October 6, 2026. An Investopedia report syndicated by AOL described a 9% pre-market rise that day. These are different snapshots, not the closing return. AOL’s report also said CEG had entered Tuesday down 24% for 2026; that is a dated year-to-date figure, not a current return.
A one-day share-price reaction shows how investors responded in that trading window. It does not establish that the contract will deliver a particular earnings increase, that CEG is undervalued, or that the gain will continue.

What is the Google–Constellation deal?
The headline agreement is a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA). Google’s commitment supports equipment and technology upgrades at 11 existing Constellation nuclear units in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Constellation says the work represents more than $4.3 billion in new investment and is expected to add 890 MW of capacity to the PJM Interconnection grid.
The 890 MW is planned additional capacity from uprates—projects intended to increase the output of reactors already in service—not power from a newly built nuclear plant. Google describes uprates as involving modernization of equipment such as turbines, steam generators, and digital control systems.
The deal also includes a distinct 15-year energy supply contract for 2,700 MW elsewhere in PJM’s generation fleet. Reuters reported 3,590 MW contracted in total from Constellation across the two arrangements, with the 890 MW nuclear component making up about a quarter. The remaining 2,700 MW is not identified with a specific generation source, so it should not be described as additional nuclear capacity.

When is the new capacity expected?
The companies expect the uprate projects to add capacity in stages before the end of 2032. Reuters reported that the first upgraded plant is expected to deliver electricity in 2028. Those dates are company plans and expectations; the projects still have to be completed and deliver as intended.

What does 890 MW mean?
A megawatt measures generating capacity: the rate at which a power plant can produce electricity under specified operating conditions. The 890 MW figure describes the planned increase in capacity across the upgraded units, not the total output of all 11 reactors and not a measure of how much electricity Google will consume at every moment. Actual generation depends on plant operations and other conditions.

Why does Google want the power?
Google says its data-center growth is driving its need for electricity and presents the agreement as a way to add capacity to the existing energy system. In a separate October 6, 2026 statement, Google said its agreements had enabled more than 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of new U.S. nuclear capacity through uprates and restarts. That is Google’s company-reported total, not a measure of the capacity in this Constellation deal alone.
The agreement also sits within wider competition among technology companies to secure large electricity supplies for U.S. data centers. Reuters and Utility Dive describe pressure on PJM’s capacity system and regional demand needs. That context helps explain the commercial importance of long-term power arrangements, but the available reporting does not establish that AI demand alone caused the stock move or accounts for all regional electricity growth.
What else did the companies announce?
Google and Constellation announced an expanded five-year technology alliance involving Google Cloud and Gemini Enterprise applications in Constellation’s operations. Constellation says the alliance is intended to support capacity delivery, dispatch optimization, affordability, resiliency, and infrastructure protection. These are stated objectives, not demonstrated operating results.

How does the deal compare with Constellation’s other power agreements?
| Agreement | Term and capacity | What the capacity represents | Timing or disclosed context |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google–Constellation headline PPA | 20 years; 890 MW | Planned nuclear uprates at 11 existing units in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey | First upgraded plant expected to deliver in 2028; projects expected to add capacity before the end of 2032 |
| Separate Google–Constellation supply agreement | 15 years; 2,700 MW | Power from elsewhere in PJM; a specific generation source is not stated | Distinct from the 890 MW nuclear uprate program |
| Amazon–Constellation agreement | 20 years; 690 MW | Includes a 190 MW uprate at the Calvert Cliffs plant in Maryland | Constellation said the uprate is expected online between 2030 and 2032; the agreement also supports investment and relicensing plans for the plant |
| Other long-term PPAs reported by Constellation | 920 MW; terms of 15–20 years | Nuclear generation, including a 176 MW Walmart agreement with a 30 MW expansion at Dresden | In its second-quarter 2026 results, Constellation said expected starts were from 2029 through 2032 |
These agreements show that Constellation has been pursuing long-term customer contracts for nuclear output and other power supply. They are useful business context, but the terms, generating assets, and timing differ; they do not establish the economics of the Google contract.
What can investors conclude about CEG stock?
The announcement provides evidence of a large, long-term customer commitment and a planned investment program. It does not disclose contract pricing, project-level margins, financing terms, or an incremental earnings estimate. Without those details, the $4.3 billion investment figure cannot be translated into a defensible earnings forecast or share valuation.
Constellation’s second-quarter 2026 results provide company context, not a forecast for this deal: the company said adjusted operating earnings reflected the addition of Calpine and favorable market and portfolio conditions, partly offset by unfavorable nuclear outages. Plant performance and outages matter when assessing a fleet-based business, but those reported factors do not reveal how the Google projects will perform.
