What the $9.95 Whole Foods delivery fee covers
Amazon’s Whole Foods ordering help says all one-hour and two-hour delivery orders include a $9.95 service fee. Its current grocery guide lists that fee for Prime members and $13.95 for customers without Prime. Applicable charges appear at checkout, so check the total for your address and order before placing it. Why Prime does not make Whole Foods delivery free
Prime membership alone does not waive the Whole Foods delivery service fee. The fee’s future-tense framing dates to its introduction: Bloomberg reported on September 24, 2021, that the charge would begin October 25, 2021. When the grocery delivery subscription may be worth it
Amazon offers an optional grocery-delivery subscription separate from Prime. Amazon’s 2026 pricing lists it at $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year for Prime members, and $4.99 per month for eligible Prime Access members. It covers unlimited qualifying deliveries from Whole Foods and other participating services on orders over $25 in most areas; availability and conditions vary. To assess the subscription, compare how many qualifying deliveries you make each month, the size of your orders, and the subscription cost. It is a separate paid option, not a free Prime benefit, and the order minimum and local availability matter.
Can pickup avoid the fee?
Amazon says Whole Foods pickup can be free with an order over $35 and a one-hour pickup window. Fees may apply below that threshold or when choosing pickup as soon as 30 minutes after checkout. Do not assume other Amazon grocery services have the same terms
Amazon Same-Day Delivery, Amazon Fresh, Amazon Now, and local grocery partners are distinct services. Their fees, eligibility, and order thresholds may differ from Whole Foods delivery. What to check before placing an order
- Confirm whether the order is delivery or pickup and which service is handling it.
- Review the service fee and other charges shown at checkout for your ZIP code.
- If comparing the subscription, count only deliveries that meet its qualifying terms and order minimum.
- For pickup, check whether the selected time and order amount meet the local conditions for free pickup.
