He and fellow actor Rob Mac (formerly Rob McElhenney) took control in 2021. Since then, Wrexham have won three successive promotions, reaching the Championship after the 2024/25 season. Apollo Sports Capital joined later as a minority investor.
Who owns Wrexham AFC?
Companies House lists Reynolds and Mac as active persons with significant control of Wrexham AFC Limited. Both entries fall within the register’s “75% or more” share and voting-rights disclosure band and record the right to appoint or remove directors. That band is a reporting category, not an exact individual ownership percentage: it does not mean each person separately owns at least 75%. Reynolds’s notice is dated 9 February 2021.

How has Wrexham’s football story changed under the owners?
Wrexham earned three successive promotions and reached the English Football League Championship after the 2024/25 season. BBC Sport’s five-year account and timeline trace the club’s climb through the English league system; Apollo’s December 2025 announcement also notes the Championship achievement. These are completed milestones, not a statement about the club’s position in a later season.

A current league position can change during a season. The material available here does not establish Wrexham’s 2026/27 table position, so claims about its present ranking, playoff prospects or another promotion need a dated table from an official league or club source. The club’s men’s team page is a starting point for current team information, but it does not by itself establish a standings claim.
What does Ryan Reynolds do at Wrexham?
Reynolds is an owner and public representative of the club. BBC Sport reported that Reynolds and Mac said they do not make football decisions. That is their stated position as reported by BBC; it does not establish that the owners have no influence over investment, recruitment or the club’s wider direction, nor does it provide a complete account of who handles each daily football responsibility. What is Welcome to Wrexham?
Welcome to Wrexham is a documentary series following the club and its owners. BBC Sport and the Associated Press have connected the series and the celebrity-led takeover with Wrexham’s wider international profile. It offers a produced, on-screen account of the club and its people; for legal control, company filings are the more direct evidence, while independent reporting adds context beyond the series’ narrative. What the ownership record does—and does not—show
- Established: Reynolds and Mac are both recorded as persons with significant control of Wrexham AFC Limited.
- Not established by the disclosure band: each person’s exact percentage stake. The register’s threshold category should not be treated as a precise cap table.
- Established sporting milestone: three successive promotions, culminating in the Championship after 2024/25.
- Separate from the owners’ public profile: the club’s football operation. The owners’ reported statement about decision-making does not, on its own, spell out the full operational structure.
