Sheffield Wednesday’s takeover was completed by Arise Capital Partners LLC on 2 May 2026—not by Mike Ashley or John Textor. Forbes estimated Ashley’s net worth at $6.2 billion as of 10 September 2026 and Textor’s at $3.4 billion in an article dated 23 June 2025. Those figures are estimates from different dates, and no comparable current personal estimate for former owner Dejphon Chansiri was verified.

Who bought Sheffield Wednesday?

Arise Capital Partners LLC completed the transfer of Sheffield Wednesday’s club assets on 2 May 2026, and the club exited administration. The EFL named David Storch, Michael Storch and Tom Costin as members of the consortium. The EFL’s completion announcement also said the club would be subject to a two-season budget restriction and a player-registration business plan.

Arise had been named preferred bidder by the administrators on 10 March 2026. At that point, the administrators said the consortium had provided a substantial deposit and evidence of funds. The administrators’ announcement described the selection; it was not the completion date.

Did Mike Ashley or John Textor buy the club?

No. Ashley and Textor were reported as prospective interests, not the eventual purchasers. The Guardian reported on 27 August 2025 that Textor had registered interest with then-owner Chansiri and was poised for talks about a possible takeover. That report described interest, not a completed deal. The Guardian’s report predates Arise’s selection as preferred bidder in March 2026.

How do the three men’s wealth estimates compare?

Person Reported estimate Date and source What the figure represents
Mike Ashley $6.2 billion Forbes real-time estimate shown as of 10 September 2026 (Forbes) Forbes lists sports retailing as his source of wealth. This is a market-sensitive estimate, not an audited personal balance sheet.
John Textor $3.4 billion Forbes estimate in an article dated 23 June 2025 (Forbes) A dated estimate published in an article about an agreement to sell his Crystal Palace stake.
Dejphon Chansiri No comparable current personal estimate verified No current like-for-like figure established; a 2020 report concerned family wealth (source) Family wealth from 2020 cannot be substituted for Chansiri’s personal wealth in 2026.

The Ashley and Textor figures are not synchronized snapshots: the dates differ by more than a year. Net worth estimates represent estimated assets minus liabilities; they do not show how much wealth is liquid, whether someone is willing to invest, or how much money has been committed to a club. The estimates therefore do not establish the size of any Wednesday bid or any buyer’s capacity to fund the club.

Why did Wednesday enter administration?

On 3 June 2025, the EFL announced charges against Sheffield Wednesday and Chansiri concerning failures to pay player wages on time and in full in March and May 2025. The EFL’s announcement concerned those wage-payment obligations. The later asset transfer to Arise and the club’s exit from administration are separate events.

What restrictions apply after the takeover?

Wednesday exited administration when the asset transfer was completed, but the EFL said a budget restriction would apply for two seasons. The club may sign players in accordance with its agreed business plan; player registrations remain subject to that plan. The EFL’s announcement sets out those conditions.
