OPPO’s direct corporate parent is Guangdong Oujia Holdings Co., Ltd., not BBK Electronics. A July 2026 Hong Kong Stock Exchange filing identifies OPPO founder Chen Mingyong—known internationally as Tony Chen—as the person ultimately controlling the largest stake in that parent. OPPO was historically associated with BBK, which is why older accounts may give a different shorthand answer.
OPPO’s ownership chain
The July 2026 HKEX filing describes this chain for OPPO Guangdong Mobile Telecommunications Corp., Ltd., the operating company named in the disclosure:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- OPPO brand: the consumer-facing name.
- Operating company: OPPO Guangdong Mobile Telecommunications Corp., Ltd.
- Direct parent: Guangdong Oujia Holdings Co., Ltd.; the filing says it wholly owned OPPO Guangdong as of the filing’s latest practicable date.
- Ultimate control identified: Chen Mingyong, through the labor union committee’s holding in Guangdong Oujia Holdings.
The filing assigns approximately 65.70% of Guangdong Oujia Holdings to its labor union committee, which it says is ultimately controlled by Chen. It lists approximately 33.80% for Glory Hill Holdings and 0.50% for Jin Leqin. These are disclosed interests in the parent company, not evidence that Chen personally owns every OPPO share in his own name. Read the July 2026 HKEX filing.
Who is Tony Chen?
Tony Chen and Chen Mingyong are the same person: OPPO’s Chinese-language materials use the name 陈明永, while its international materials generally use Tony Chen. OPPO’s own materials identify him as the company’s founder and CEO. The filing’s description of his ultimate control is a separate ownership fact; being a founder or CEO alone would not establish someone’s current shareholding. OPPO’s legal and compliance page and its Chinese-language announcement use those names and roles.

OPPO says it was founded in 2004. Its first mobile phone arrived in 2008, so the company’s founding date should not be confused with the launch of its phone business. OPPO’s 18th-anniversary announcement recounts its founding, and its 2025 sustainability announcement dates the first phone to 2008.
Is OPPO owned by BBK Electronics?
BBK Electronics is the historical association, not the clearest description of OPPO’s current direct ownership. Older coverage often grouped OPPO with Vivo, OnePlus, Realme and iQOO under the BBK label. The July 2026 filing instead identifies Guangdong Oujia Holdings as OPPO Guangdong’s direct parent. That is the more specific answer to who owns OPPO’s operating company today.

This does not establish that BBK has disappeared from every commercial or corporate relationship, nor does a historical group label prove that every brand in it shares the same legal owner. The available filing supports a specific ownership chain for OPPO; it is not a complete corporate chart for every related brand or regional subsidiary.

Is OPPO a public company?
OPPO is generally presented as a private Chinese consumer-electronics company, rather than a separately listed smartphone maker. The ownership percentages above appear in an HKEX filing that discusses OPPO’s corporate structure; they do not mean OPPO itself is listed on the Hong Kong exchange or publishes a conventional public-company shareholder register. For the latest disclosed chain, use the filing’s date and scope rather than treating the percentages as permanent.

How OPPO relates to OnePlus, Realme and Vivo
OnePlus
OnePlus has long had operational links with OPPO, including shared technology, distribution and software relationships. A shared platform or service relationship does not by itself show that two consumer brands are the same legal company. Corporate and support arrangements can also vary by market.
Realme
A January 2026 Reuters report reproduced by MarketScreener described Realme as set to become an OPPO sub-brand, reflecting a closer integration. That report is useful context, but it does not establish every subsidiary, shareholder or regional operating relationship. Read the January 2026 report.

Vivo
Vivo is not shown as an OPPO subsidiary in the OPPO ownership disclosure. The brands have historically been discussed together because of their BBK-era association and overlapping business origins, but that is not evidence that Vivo is owned by OPPO. A current, detailed conclusion about Vivo’s own ownership would require its own authoritative corporate disclosure.
What OPPO makes—and what its scale figures mean
OPPO’s business extends beyond phones. Its company materials cover Find and Reno smartphones, ColorOS software, wearables, audio products, tablets, other smart devices and internet services. In its June 30, 2026 sustainability announcement, OPPO reported more than 40,000 employees and operations in more than 90 countries and regions, based on data available by May 31, 2026. Those are company-reported figures, not independently audited here. See OPPO’s announcement.

What ownership does—and does not—tell a phone buyer
Corporate ownership can help explain why brands share technology or services, but it does not guarantee identical terms or experiences. Check the company and policy that apply to the exact model and country before relying on assumptions about:
Quick Recap
- Software updates: schedules and eligibility are model- and region-specific.
- Warranty and repairs: coverage depends on where the phone was sold and which local support operation handles it.
- Privacy and data: read the policy for the relevant product and region rather than inferring it from a parent company.
- Availability and compatibility: confirm local sales, network bands, software services and official support. OPPO’s presence in more than 90 countries and regions does not mean every model is sold or supported in the United States.
