ASUS is a Taiwanese technology company, not a mainland Chinese brand. It was founded in Taiwan, is headquartered in Taipei and is listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange. At the same time, ASUS is a multinational group with business and manufacturing-related operations in mainland China. Those facts answer different questions: a company’s origin is not the same as where a particular product is made.
What country is ASUS from?
In ordinary corporate and commercial usage, ASUS is Taiwanese. Its legal corporate name is ASUSTEK COMPUTER INC.; its headquarters are in Taipei, and its shares trade on the Taiwan Stock Exchange under stock code 2357. ASUS’s investor profile lists design, research and development, and sales of computers, motherboards, graphics products, phones, tablets and related products among its activities.

There are two dates in ASUS materials that readers may encounter. Historical company material describes ASUS as established in 1989, while the current English investor profile gives April 2, 1990, as ASUSTeK Computer Inc.’s establishment date. These may reflect different descriptions of the business’s origins and formal company establishment; they should not be treated as the same date. ASUS’s investor FAQ gives November 14, 1996, as its Taiwan Stock Exchange listing date. See the historical ASUS sustainability report and the investor FAQ.
“Taiwanese” here describes the company’s commercial identity, origin, headquarters and listing. Taiwan’s broader political status is disputed internationally; that separate diplomatic question does not make ASUS a mainland Chinese brand.

Why is ASUS sometimes mistaken for a Chinese brand?
Its name is written in Chinese
ASUS is known in Chinese as 華碩, commonly romanized as Huáshuò. Chinese-language branding is not evidence of mainland Chinese corporate origin: Chinese is also widely used in Taiwan and elsewhere.
Some products may say “Made in China”
A manufacturing or assembly label describes the origin of that unit under the applicable labeling rules. It does not, on its own, identify the nationality, headquarters or ownership of the brand.
ASUS has operations in mainland China
That connection is real, not a reason to relabel the company’s origin. ASUS’s 2025 annual report lists China-based entities involved in sales, repair, research and development, and manufacturing-related activities. A fair description needs both parts: Taiwanese corporate identity and mainland Chinese operations.

Does ASUS manufacture products in China?
Yes. The 2025 annual report identifies several mainland Chinese entities and their activities, including:
- ASKEY TECHNOLOGY (JIANGSU) LTD. — manufacturing and selling communications products.
- FUJIAN CANDID INTERNATIONAL CO., LTD. — manufacturing and selling computer and peripheral equipment.
- AAEON TECHNOLOGY (SUZHOU) INC. — manufacturing and selling industrial computers and interface cards.
- ASUS TECHNOLOGY (SUZHOU) CO., LTD. — research and development of 3C products.
- ASUSTEK COMPUTER (SHANGHAI) CO., LTD. and ASUSTEK COMPUTER (CHONGQING) CO., LTD. — sales of 3C products in China.
- AUTOASUS ELECTRONICS (SUZHOU) CO., LTD. — manufacturing and selling vehicle products in the China region.
These are corporate-group disclosures; they do not establish that every listed entity makes ASUS-branded consumer hardware, nor that every ASUS laptop, monitor, router or component is made in China. Product sourcing can vary by model, configuration, batch, supplier and sales region.
Who owns ASUS?
ASUS is a publicly traded Taiwanese company. Its 2025 annual report lists major shareholders as of March 31, 2026, including Taiwan-listed ETFs, financial institutions, pension-related holdings and chairman Jonney Shih. The report lists Shih’s stake at 4.05%; the largest listed holding, Capital TIP Customized Taiwan Select High Dividend ETF, was 5.36%.

Those figures are a snapshot of disclosed major holdings, not a complete beneficial-ownership census. Public companies can have international investors, nominee accounts and funds whose own investors are diverse. The available disclosure does not establish ASUS as mainland Chinese state-owned or controlled by a mainland Chinese technology conglomerate. It would also be too broad to call the company entirely Taiwanese-owned based only on a major-shareholder list. The figures and China-related entities above are in ASUS’s 2025 annual report.

Do not infer a unit’s country of origin from its logo or ASUS’s headquarters. Check the exact item and its documentation:
- Read the “Made in” or country-of-origin marking on the product box and regulatory label.
- Match the label to the full model number and regional SKU; similar configurations can have different sourcing.
- Check the model-specific product page and the retailer’s country-of-origin information.
- If the origin is important for a purchase or customs declaration, ask the seller or importer for documentation for that unit or batch.
A serial-number lookup or general specification page may help identify a model, but no universal public lookup for manufacturing country is established by the available information. Confirm the marking on the specific unit rather than assuming a brand-wide answer.

What “Chinese brand” can mean
The phrase is ambiguous. It may refer to where a company began, where it is headquartered, who controls it, or where goods are manufactured. Those tests can produce different answers for the same multinational business.

ASUS, Pegatron and manufacturing
ASUS says it separated its original equipment manufacturing operation into an independent company, Pegatron, to reduce conflicts between its branded business and original design manufacturing work. ASUS and Pegatron are separate Taiwanese corporations; a historical manufacturing relationship does not make ASUS a mainland Chinese brand. ASUS explains the separation in its investor FAQ.

ASUS is not limited to Taiwan. Its global pressroom describes a presence in 75 markets, more than 160 offices, over 2,500 support centers and more than 16,000 employees. These are ASUS-stated corporate figures on its About ASUS page; they describe a global footprint, not a fixed or independently verified current headcount.

Brand origin also cannot settle questions about privacy, cybersecurity, data storage, warranty jurisdiction or government procurement rules. Those require evidence about the particular product, service, data practices and applicable rules—not an inference from the word “Taiwanese” or “Chinese.”
Verdict
The most precise description is that ASUS is a Taiwan-founded, Taiwan-headquartered, Taiwan-listed multinational technology company with substantial business and manufacturing-related operations in mainland China. Some individual ASUS products may be made or assembled in China, but that does not make the brand mainland Chinese.
