Ryan Howsam is a Sheffield-born entrepreneur best known as the founder of Staysure. He was reported to have explored a Sheffield Wednesday takeover with Simon Jordan in 2025, but the pair withdrew without making a formal offer. The club’s takeover was completed in May 2026 by a different group, Arise Capital Partners.

Who is Ryan Howsam?

Howsam is an entrepreneur and investor from Sheffield. His own business website identifies him as the founder and chairman of Staysure and describes investments across financial services, travel, luxury, technology and leisure. These are descriptions published by Howsam’s business, rather than an independently verified account of every current role. His Ventures and Investments page sets out that profile.

Companies House lists Howsam as an active person with significant control of Howsam Limited. The filing records at least 75% of the company’s shares and voting rights, as well as the right to appoint or remove directors. It gives his birth month and year as June 1966, British nationality and United Arab Emirates residence. Companies House cautions that it does not verify the accuracy of information filed with it. The register entry says he was notified on 9 October 2020.

A December 2025 report also described Howsam as holding a majority equity share in the Legends Tour at that time. That is a secondary report and does not establish whether the role remains current. Sheffield Wednesday News identified him as Sheffield-born.

What was Howsam’s involvement with Sheffield Wednesday?

On 3 December 2025, Sheffield Wednesday News reported that Howsam and former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan had examined the club’s finances while considering a possible bid. According to that report, they pulled out because the numbers did not work and did not submit a formal offer.

The report said Jordan objected to the idea of paying close to £20 million to then-owner Dejphon Chansiri. That figure was reported as the basis of Jordan’s objection; it was not a verified sale price or a formal offer from Howsam and Jordan.

The outlet reproduced comments Jordan had posted on X, including: “Ryan Howsam is one of the best UK entrepreneurs, a fabulous businessman.” Jordan also said: “Football is a very different business, and whilst I have endlessly advocated for #SWFC, a deal has to be right, and this one was beginning to not be.” These are Jordan’s words as quoted by the outlet; the original post was not independently verified.

Who completed the Sheffield Wednesday takeover?

Arise Capital Partners completed the takeover in May 2026, not Howsam. The EFL said on 2 May that the administrators had concluded an agreement to transfer Sheffield Wednesday’s assets to Arise Capital Partners LLC, a consortium led by David Storch alongside Michael Storch and Tom Costin. The league confirmed that the club had met its requirements under the new ownership and was no longer in administration. The EFL statement is the primary source for the completion and league conditions.

The BBC reported that the transaction ended Chansiri’s ownership. It said Wednesday had entered administration on 24 October 2025, received an immediate 12-point deduction and lost a further six points over payment-related charges. Relegation was confirmed on 22 February 2026. The BBC also reported that a preferred-bidder process involving James Bord collapsed three days later, before Storch returned to negotiate with the administrators. The BBC’s account provides that timeline.

What happened to Wednesday’s points deduction and budget?

After the club exited administration under its new ownership, the EFL decided not to impose the planned 15-point deduction. It also imposed a budget restriction for the next two seasons as a condition of membership. The waived 15 points are distinct from the 12-point and six-point deductions that the BBC reported had already been applied during administration.

EFL chief executive Trevor Birch described the period around administration as “an extremely testing time for the Club, and all associated with Sheffield Wednesday, particularly the players, coaching staff, club employees and supporters.”
