Several prominent figures and political groups expressed interest in helping Elon Musk explore a third party after he announced the America Party in July 2025. But reported interest is not proof of a donation, and the available reporting does not establish that a formally registered America Party raised money. America PAC, which has substantial Federal Election Commission (FEC) filings, is a separate committee.

What is known about the America Party?

Musk announced the proposed party in July 2025, after a public dispute with President Donald Trump over a tax-and-spending law. Musk said the party was intended “to give you back your freedom.” At the time, the Associated Press reported that it was unclear what formal steps had been taken to establish it. Newly filed entities referencing Musk or his companies prompted questions about authenticity, and Musk called at least one filing false. A filing that mentions the party name, by itself, does not prove that Musk registered a party. The Associated Press’s July 2025 report describes the uncertainty.

Who expressed interest, and what did they offer?

Reports described different kinds of interest—not a collective commitment by wealthy donors. The distinctions matter: an offer to connect Musk with an organization, a request to meet, or a possible role recruiting candidates is not a confirmed financial contribution or formal party position.

Person or organization What was reported What that does—and does not—show
Mark Cuban Axios reported that Cuban appeared interested and offered to connect Musk with a voter-choice organization focused on ballot access. An offer of operational help; the report does not establish a donation to the America Party.
Anthony Scaramucci Scaramucci wrote, “I would like to meet to discuss. My DMs are open.” An invitation to talk, not evidence of a party role or contribution.
Andrew Yang and the Forward Party Yang told Axios, “I’m in touch with Elon and his team, and I’ve said to them, ‘Look, anyone who wants to challenge the duopoly has a friend in me,’” and said he might help recruit candidates. He also described Musk’s team as “Right now they’re in learning mode.” Contact and possible recruiting assistance were discussed; the statements do not establish a formal role or donation.
Libertarian Party Chair Steven Nekhaila said, “Perhaps there is grounds for a coalition between the Libertarians and the America Party to run pro-liberty, small-government, fiscally conservative candidates against the Republicans, who have proven that they cannot be trusted.” A possible coalition was floated, not confirmed as an agreement.
No Labels Axios described the organization as interested in potential cooperation. Reported interest does not establish a formal partnership or funding.
Ron Nielson The manager of Gary Johnson’s 2016 Libertarian presidential campaign told Axios, “Musk ‘could make a third-party effort immediately viable, and that changes the game,’” An assessment of Musk’s potential influence, not a report of a donation or organizational role.

These accounts were reported by Axios. They document interest and possible help, not verified contributions to a formally established party. The sources do not identify confirmed ultra-wealthy donors to such a party.

Is America PAC the same as the America Party?

No. America PAC is a separate political committee, not evidence that the proposed America Party was formed or funded. The FEC identifies America PAC as an active independent-expenditure-only committee, commonly called a Super PAC. Its committee overview reports $50,329,299.04 in total receipts for the coverage period January 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026. That amount belongs to America PAC, not the proposed party. See the FEC’s America PAC committee overview.

FactCheck.org, drawing on FEC data, reported that America PAC spent $261.2 million in 2024 and raised more than $50.3 million through June 30, 2026; it said nearly all of the PAC’s receipts came from Musk or his company. Those are America PAC figures, not evidence that other wealthy people financed the America Party. FactCheck.org’s 2026 account discusses the PAC’s finances and political activity.

What changed in 2026?

On July 29, 2026, Axios reported that Musk was reviving America PAC to help boost Republican turnout in the midterms, following his earlier proposal for a third party. That update concerns the PAC; it does not, on its own, establish that the America Party was abandoned or dissolved. Axios reported the PAC’s midterm activity.

How to verify whether a party or contribution is official

For claims about formal registration or disclosed campaign contributions, check the current FEC record rather than relying on a filing that merely uses the party’s name or on reports of public interest.

  1. Open the FEC campaign-finance data search and search for the committee or organization by name.
  2. Check the committee’s identity and status, then open its filings and disclosure reports. The FEC explains its report-filing requirements.
  3. Confirm that the record refers to the America Party itself—not America PAC or an unrelated entity—and check the filing dates and coverage period before attributing any receipts or expenditures.

A public expression of interest, a meeting offer, and a disclosed contribution are different claims. Treat them separately unless a party record or filing supports the stronger claim.
