Prosecutors had alleged that she misrepresented Kalder’s revenue, brand partnerships and paying customers to investors. Her plea resolved one count; it does not mean she pleaded guilty to every charge in the earlier indictment.
Who is Gökçe Güven?
Güven founded Kalder and led it as CEO. TechCrunch described Kalder as a New York-based company founded in 2022 that pitched a service enabling companies to create and monetize rewards programs. That description reflects the company’s stated positioning, not independent confirmation of its business performance or customer relationships.
Güven was featured in Forbes’ 2025 30 Under 30 list, according to TechCrunch. Separate coverage identifies the list category as Marketing & Advertising, so the recognition should not be read as evidence that Forbes listed her specifically in a fintech category.
What did prosecutors allege about Kalder?
In a superseding indictment announced January 29, 2026, federal prosecutors alleged that Güven raised approximately $7 million from seed-round investors by overstating Kalder’s business success and prospects. The indictment alleged the company had minimal revenue and few paying customers despite claims made to investors, and that its annual recurring revenue was overstated nearly tenfold. These are allegations in the indictment, not findings stated here as established facts.

Prosecutors also alleged misrepresentations about Kalder’s brand partners and paying customers. The DOJ’s May plea announcement said Güven’s immigration application repeated misrepresentations made to investors and included support or reference letters purportedly signed by business executives, but digitally signed by Güven without their knowledge or consent. That is the government’s account in its plea announcement.
What charges did the fintech founder face?
The January superseding indictment charged Güven with securities fraud, wire fraud, visa fraud and aggravated identity theft in connection with the alleged misrepresentations. The later plea announcement says she pleaded guilty to one count of securities fraud. It does not say that she pleaded guilty to wire fraud, visa fraud or aggravated identity theft.

Jay Clayton, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, said in the DOJ’s May release: “In our startup markets, ambition is not a substitute for honesty.”
Did Güven plead guilty, and what is known about the sentence?
Yes. The DOJ announced on May 15, 2026, that Güven pleaded guilty to one securities-fraud count and agreed to forfeit nearly $7 million. The forfeiture is the amount she agreed to give up as part of the plea; it is distinct from the approximately $7 million prosecutors alleged she raised from seed-round investors.

The DOJ’s May release scheduled sentencing for September 17, 2026. That date has passed, but the available DOJ announcement does not report whether the hearing occurred or what sentence, if any, was imposed. Do not treat the scheduled date as proof of a sentencing outcome.

A Justia docket summary reports that the SEC filed a civil complaint against Güven and Kalder on October 2, 2026. The complaint and later case activity have not been verified against a primary record here, so its allegations and status cannot be stated as established facts. A civil filing, if confirmed, is separate from the criminal guilty plea.
