Who is Diane Hendricks?
Hendricks is an American businesswoman best known as cofounder, chairman and sole owner of ABC Supply. The company says she has been its chairman and sole owner since 2007, the year Kenneth Hendricks died. Hendricks and Ken Hendricks founded ABC Supply in 1982. The business distributes roofing materials as well as siding, windows, gutters, wallboard, metal framing, ceiling tiles and grid. Its scale and growth are central to the fortune Forbes attributes to her.
After Ken died in 2007, Hendricks continued leading the company rather than selling it. Growing through acquisitions
ABC Supply completed its acquisition of Bradco in 2010; Forbes described it at the time as the largest acquisition in the company’s history. In 2016, ABC acquired L&W Supply, another large building-materials distributor. Forbes’s current profile reports ABC Supply had $20.2 billion in 2025 revenue. What is ABC Supply, and who owns it?
ABC Supply is a distributor serving the building-construction market, including roofing and other exterior and interior materials. The company says Hendricks is its sole owner. ABC Supply’s company biography lists over 15,000 associates and 811 locations; Forbes’s profile reports over 900 branch locations. Those figures come from different sources and may reflect different definitions or update schedules; the available information does not reconcile them.

What does Forbes mean by “America’s richest self-made woman”?
Forbes’s profile listed Hendricks with an estimated real-time net worth of $23.6 billion as of September 10, 2026. The estimate is not the same as cash on hand, and it can change as asset values and assumptions change. It should be read with its source and date rather than as a permanent ranking.
ABC News’s summary of Forbes’s 2026 list methodology says Forbes used stock prices from June 1, 2026, to value public holdings. For private businesses, it relied on outside expertise and conservative comparisons with public companies. Hendricks’s fortune is tied to ownership of a large private operating business, not simply to a salary or a single public-company stock holding. ABC Supply’s expansion—including major acquisitions—and its reported scale help explain why Forbes places such a high estimated value on her stake.
