There is no official public figure establishing Burnley’s highest-paid player. For 2025/26, SalaryLeaks estimates James Ward-Prowse at £100,000 a week, while FBref’s Capology-based table lists Kyle Walker at £75,000 a week and labels the estimate unverified. Scott Parker’s record is similarly split: he led a standout promotion campaign, but Burnley were relegated in the following Premier League season. The available evidence cannot establish whether any individual player’s salary represented value for money.
Who was Burnley’s highest-paid player?
It depends on the source and season. These are estimates, not disclosed contract figures, and the 2025/26 sources do not agree:
| Source and season | Player listed at the top | Published estimate | Qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| SalaryLeaks, 2025/26 | James Ward-Prowse | £100,000 a week; £5.2 million a year | Provider estimate. SalaryLeaks also reports a £59.6 million first-team wage bill including bonuses. |
| FBref, 2025/26, using Capology data | Kyle Walker | £75,000 a week; £3.9 million a year | Player amounts are labelled “Unverified estimation.” |
| Capology, 2026/27 page, updated 2026 | Kyle Walker | £75,000 a week; £3.9 million fixed gross a year | Different season; Capology says its salary figures are estimates, not official disclosures, and separates estimated bonuses from fixed wages. |
SalaryLeaks’ Burnley wage estimates, FBref’s Burnley wage table and Capology’s Burnley salary page should not be collapsed into one definitive answer. In particular, the 2026/27 Capology listing is not evidence of Parker-era pay: it covers a different season.
The reviewed sources do not reconcile how they treat bonuses, loan-related salary contributions or other methodology differences. They also do not establish an official individual payroll figure. The safest answer is therefore source-specific: SalaryLeaks names Ward-Prowse for 2025/26; FBref’s Capology-fed 2025/26 table names Walker.

Did Scott Parker get value from Burnley’s squad?
His results point in different directions across the two seasons. Burnley’s 30 April 2026 statement says Parker left by mutual consent after the club’s Premier League relegation was confirmed. It also credits him with leading the club’s 2024/25 Championship promotion campaign, a 33-match unbeaten run and 30 clean sheets.
The promotion season
Winning promotion while putting together a 33-match unbeaten run and 30 clean sheets is a strong team-level achievement. It supports the conclusion that Parker delivered the promotion objective exceptionally well.

The Premier League season
Burnley’s relegation the following season is a poor team outcome. Parker’s departure by mutual consent after relegation was confirmed marks a clear change in the club’s circumstances, but the club’s statement does not attribute that outcome to one player’s pay or performance.
Together, those results make Parker’s tenure mixed rather than a simple success-or-failure story: exceptional in the promotion campaign, followed by relegation in the Premier League. Team results alone do not show whether the highest-paid player—or any particular player—was worth his salary.

What Burnley’s accounts can—and cannot—tell you
Burnley’s official accounts page reports figures for the year ended 31 July 2025. Turnover fell from £133.6 million to £71.7 million, profit on disposal of player registrations was £59.0 million, and the group recorded a £28.5 million post-tax loss. The club attributes the turnover decrease to competing in the Championship and the associated fall in broadcasting distributions.
These are club-level accounts, not a breakdown of individual wages, Parker’s budget or the return from a particular player. They provide context for the financial change between divisions, but cannot resolve whether one player’s cost was justified by his contribution.

Even estimated squad totals vary by source and scope: SalaryLeaks reports a £59.6 million first-team wage bill including bonuses, while FBref’s 2025/26 league-wide table puts Burnley’s estimated annual wage figure at £55.19 million. Those totals should not be treated as directly comparable without consistent definitions; neither identifies an individual player’s value.

A defensible value judgment would need verified total cost and player-specific output, as well as a comparison with realistic alternatives. The cited wage pages provide estimates, and the results statement and accounts do not supply that player-level comparison.

- Cost: an official figure for the relevant season, with a clear distinction between fixed salary, bonuses and any salary-sharing arrangement.
- Contribution: relevant measures such as minutes, availability, goals, assists or defensive outcomes, interpreted in the player’s role.
- Alternatives: what Burnley could have obtained for a comparable cost, rather than judging pay in isolation.
The available material does not establish the first item reliably or provide the full player-level comparison. It supports a mixed verdict on Parker’s team results, but not a definitive wage-for-output verdict on Burnley’s highest-paid player.
