That figure is an estimate attributed to Financial Times reporting and reproduced by Naftemporiki and HotNews; the republications do not provide an audit methodology or independently verified consolidated account records. The profile describes a small group combining specialized knowledge, shared research and fast trading—not a public tips server or a proven formula for making money.
Who are Alpha’s members?
In a profile published October 5, 2026, Financial Times reporting reproduced by Naftemporiki and HotNews described Alpha as a Discord group formed in spring 2024, as the U.S. election drew more casual traders to Polymarket. Its members are reportedly spread across five continents, with most in Gen Z.
Entry is described as selective: prospective members are nominated by current members and approved by a group vote. Trading record and distinctive expertise matter alongside the capital a candidate can commit. These are reported details about a private group, not independently verified membership records.
How did the group reportedly make money?
The profile portrays members as bringing different kinds of expertise to questions about real-world events. They share research, estimate the likelihood of an outcome, and look for cases where a Polymarket price appears to misstate that likelihood. The approach depends on finding useful information and acting quickly; the examples below illustrate reported trades, not a reliably repeatable strategy.

Researching the battle for Kurakhove
In a November 2024 example, members examined whether the Ukrainian city of Kurakhove would fall before a specified deadline. Their discussion reportedly drew on drone footage, map coordinates, aerial imagery, translated Russian words and visual details. One specialist put the chance that the city would not fall before December at 70%. Ukraine still held the city when December arrived, and the account says the trade paid just over $7,000.
The group’s reported question—“Where exactly did the explosion happen?”—shows the kind of detail members were trying to extract from available footage. One successful example does not establish how often the group’s estimates were right or what its overall risk-adjusted returns were.

Taking the other side of a large order
In another episode, a large trader reportedly placed a $1 million order on whether Donald Trump would create a Bitcoin reserve during his first 100 days as president. Alpha members took roughly half of the other side within a minute. Polymarket data cited in the Financial Times account put their total profit at about $250,000. That is a specific reported outcome, not a typical return or a guarantee that other traders could reproduce it.
Watching for stale orders and wallet activity
A trader identified by the pseudonym @sigh is described as watching for old orders that remain open after circumstances change, reviewing large positions and counterparties’ crypto wallets, and trying to distinguish informed analysis from political enthusiasm. These are reported tactics, not independently tested recommendations. A large position or wallet history alone does not establish that its owner has better information or that copying the trade will be profitable.

What does the reported $40 million mean?
The roughly $40 million figure is an estimate of Alpha members’ collective Polymarket earnings since 2024, attributed to Financial Times reporting and reproduced by Naftemporiki and HotNews on October 5, 2026. The available accounts do not explain an audit method or supply independently verified consolidated records. It should therefore be read as a reported estimate, not a confirmed account balance, a return earned by each member, or evidence that the group will continue to profit.
The same account reports that a study using Polymarket transactions from 2022 found two-thirds of users lost money. It also attributes figures to the Financial Times that the most profitable 1% captured more than three-quarters of total profits, while the top 0.1% captured half. The republications do not identify the study’s authors or organization, and the underlying calculations have not been independently checked here. The figures point to reported concentration of profits, but they do not establish the odds or expected outcome for an individual trader today.
Rank #4
What are the costs beyond the trades?
The profile also describes the personal burden of staying alert to breaking events: disrupted sleep, difficulty concentrating and compulsive attention to markets. One trader reportedly attended gambling-addiction support meetings. Those details complicate any simple success story: intense monitoring and the possibility of large wins can come with costs to time and well-being.
Polymarket event contracts are speculative. The examples in this profile do not show that Alpha’s methods are safe, suitable for personal finances, or likely to work for other people. Treat reported group profits as a profile of one private trading operation, not as a signal to copy its positions or commit money you cannot afford to lose.

Keep similarly named groups separate
Alpha in the Financial Times profile should not be confused with a separate Poly Alpha Discord channel discussed by DL News in coverage of disputed market outcomes. DL News said it could not independently verify bettors’ allegations; that separate report is not evidence about the group profiled here.
