According to PerthNow, he had forgotten he bought the ticket and first mistook the prize for $25,000.
Who claimed the prize?
PerthNow reported that the winner is a man in his 50s from Perth’s southern suburbs. The report did not name him. He came forward on 28 October 2025 to claim the Division One prize from the 9 October Powerball draw, reported as $25 million.
The ticket was reportedly purchased at Garden City Lottery Centre in Booragoon. Lotterywest spokesperson Jake Battrick told PerthNow that it was “fantastic to finally meet our Powerball winner” after the man had carried the winning ticket in his wallet for weeks.
Why did he take weeks to come forward?
According to PerthNow, the man had forgotten he bought the ticket. When he eventually checked it, he mistakenly read the prize as $25,000 rather than $25 million. He later visited Lotterywest’s Winners Room, where he learned the actual reported prize amount.

The winner told PerthNow: “I didn’t know there was a $25 million prize up for grabs until I visited Lotterywest HQ this morning.” He also described the win as “unbelievable, more than unbelievable.”
What does he plan to do with the money?
PerthNow quoted the winner as saying he hoped to share the prize with his siblings and other family members so they could enjoy life. He said they would be in shock when he told them. He was also considering buying a Porsche, but had not decided which car.

What did the retailer and Lotterywest say?
Garden City Lottery Centre owner Fiona Ly told PerthNow she had hoped the winner had not lost the ticket and was happy he had come forward. She said it was the store’s first Division One ticket since she bought the business almost three years earlier.
Battrick also told PerthNow that, in 2025, more than $75 million in Division One Powerball prizes had been shared across three winning tickets in Western Australia. That figure refers to the year and context of his statement, not a current-year total.
