Five dedicated MTV music channels in the UK and Ireland closed on 31 December 2025: MTV Music, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, Club MTV and MTV Live. The main MTV HD channel did not close; it was still broadcasting at the time of the closure-day report.
Which MTV channels closed?
The closures affected five dedicated linear music services, not every channel or service carrying the MTV name.

Is MTV shutting down completely?
No. Clean Feed reported that flagship MTV HD continued after the five music-channel closures. At that time its schedule was largely based on reality programming, rather than the dedicated music-video formats of the channels that closed. This is a status report at the time of publication, not a guarantee of MTV HD’s schedule or availability indefinitely.

Why did the music channels close?
Clean Feed presented the decline in popularity of linear music channels amid the growth of streaming services as industry context for the closures. That reporting does not establish streaming as Paramount’s sole official reason. The available reporting does not provide a dependable audience figure, cost-saving estimate or direct corporate statement to quantify or further explain the decision.
Can you still watch the old channel schedules?
The closure reporting establishes that these linear channels stopped broadcasting, but does not verify a replacement service where their former schedules can now be watched. It is safer not to assume that a particular streaming platform or subscription carries them.

How was the closure date reported?
RTÉ reported on 14 October 2025 that five channels were scheduled to close on 31 December and that the main MTV channel would continue with reality shows. Clean Feed’s report on 31 December records the completed closures. Separately, PRS for Music’s October 2025 audiovisual distribution-holds document lists MTV UK, MTV 90s UK, MTV 80s UK and MTV Music UK with planned dates in December 2025; that rights-administration record supports the timing but is not itself a Paramount closure announcement.
