As of September 29, 2026, a Value Research report identified just one of 60 international mutual funds accepting lump-sum investments: Baroda BNP Paribas Aqua FoF. The report listed PGIM India Global Select Real Estate Securities FoF as scheduled to reopen for lump sums on October 8, but did not confirm that it reopened. Separately, Motilal Oswal Nasdaq Q50 ETF closed at a 62.6% premium to its NAV on September 30—not double its underlying value. These are dated snapshots, not current availability or price quotes.

Which international funds were open to lump-sum investments?

Value Research’s weekly report, published October 2, 2026, said that only one of 60 international funds was accepting lump sums as of September 29: Baroda BNP Paribas Aqua FoF. The same report said three Invesco international funds were closed to lump sums but open to new systematic investment plans (SIPs), subject to a daily per-PAN limit. It also listed PGIM India Global Select Real Estate Securities FoF as scheduled to reopen for lump sums on October 8. The report did not confirm that the PGIM reopening took place.

PGIM India Global Select Real Estate Securities FoF Lump-sum reopening scheduled Scheduled for October 8; the report did not verify that it occurred. New SIPs remained shut in the report.

Fund houses may restrict subscriptions when their capacity to invest overseas is constrained. The report described the overseas mutual fund limit as approximately $7 billion and said new money can enter when a fund house has headroom. Because subscription windows and limits can change quickly, check the fund house’s current notice and transaction platform before placing an order.

Is the Q50 ETF trading at twice its NAV?

No—not in the latest dated comparison available here. Motilal Oswal Nasdaq Q50 ETF closed at ₹194.62 on September 30, 2026, while its same-day NAV was ₹119.68. That was a 62.6% premium: approximately ₹163 paid for each ₹100 of underlying NAV, rather than ₹200. This is a September 30 snapshot, not a current quote.

An ETF’s exchange price is set by trading, while its NAV represents the value of the assets attributable to each unit. When the market price exceeds NAV, buyers pay a premium; if that premium narrows, the market price can fall even when the underlying holdings are unchanged. A unit’s premium therefore matters alongside the performance of the assets it tracks.

How did Q50 compare with other international ETFs?

Value Research’s September 30, 2026 comparison showed the following same-day closing prices and NAVs. The premiums below are historical and should not be read as current market conditions.

ETF September 30, 2026 NAV September 30, 2026 market price Premium to NAV
Motilal Oswal Nasdaq Q50 ETF ₹119.68 ₹194.62 62.6%
Mirae Asset S&P 500 Top 50 ₹68.45 ₹99.66 45.6%
Mirae Asset NYSE FANG+ ₹179.85 ₹240.79 33.9%

Motilal Oswal NASDAQ 100 ₹284.83 ₹321.08 12.7%
Nippon India Hang Seng BeES ₹447.75 ₹457.47 2.2%

For context, an earlier Value Research analysis reported that Q50’s premium rose from 19.5% on September 4 to 235% on September 18, 2026. The later September 30 premium was lower, but still substantial. Those dates show how quickly the gap can move; they do not establish a typical or future premium.

Why can an ETF trade so far above NAV?

Value Research’s coverage linked the Q50 episode to constrained creation of new ETF units and a September 2026 change to the reference used for the daily price band. When additional units cannot readily enter the market, exchange buyers and sellers may trade at prices that diverge from the value of the underlying assets. The reported explanation is context, not a substitute for checking the applicable exchange and regulatory rules.

The same coverage said SEBI planned to anchor the price band to the previous day’s NAV from April 1, 2027, once systems were ready. That is a reported plan, not confirmation here of a regulator’s final implementation details. Do not assume a planned change has taken effect without checking official SEBI material.

What to check before investing

  • For a mutual fund: confirm whether lump sums, new SIPs, or only continuing SIP installments are currently permitted, and check any per-PAN cap and its counting rules.
  • For an ETF: compare a live exchange price with a closely timed NAV or indicative value. A stale NAV or a price from a different date can make the premium misleading.
  • Assess the premium itself: a premium is an added cost relative to NAV, and narrowing can reduce your sale proceeds even if underlying shares do not move.
  • Understand the exposure: Q50 aims to track the NASDAQ Q-50 Index before fees and expenses, subject to tracking error and currency movement. It trades on an exchange and requires demat and trading accounts.
  • Keep access separate from performance: a fund’s subscription status or a dated return figure does not establish that the investment is suitable or attractively priced.
