Honda publishes specifications and owner-maintenance guidance, not a comparable cost ranking or total service-cost figures for its 2026 motorcycles. To find the least expensive choice for your situation, compare the exact service schedules and local, itemized service prices for the models you are considering.
Why the Grom is a candidate, not a proven winner
The U.S. 2026 Honda Grom has a 124cc air-cooled, single-cylinder four-stroke engine, a five-speed transmission and chain final drive, according to Honda’s 2026 Grom specifications. Those specifications make it a sensible model to investigate if you want a small, relatively straightforward motorcycle. They do not show how much scheduled maintenance costs, however, or establish that the Grom costs less to maintain than other Hondas.
The 2026 Grom’s standard-trim U.S. base MSRP is $3,599. That is a purchase price, not a maintenance estimate. A lower sticker price cannot tell you what scheduled services, replacement parts, labor or chain care will cost over your ownership period.
How it compares with a larger Honda
The 2026 Honda Rebel 300 E-Clutch offers a useful point of comparison, not a cost verdict. Honda lists it with a 286cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine and a #520 O-ring-sealed chain final drive. Its U.S. base MSRP is $5,349, plus a $600 destination charge, according to Honda’s 2026 Rebel 300 E-Clutch specifications and pricing.

| Model | Officially listed configuration | U.S. price listed for 2026 | What the information establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Honda Grom | 124cc air-cooled single, five-speed transmission, chain final drive | $3,599 standard-trim base MSRP | A small-engine candidate to investigate; Honda’s specifications do not give a comparative maintenance total. |
| Honda Rebel 300 E-Clutch | 286cc liquid-cooled single, #520 O-ring-sealed chain final drive | $5,349 base MSRP plus $600 destination | A larger-bike comparison; engine size and MSRP do not establish scheduled-service costs. |
Both models use chain final drives, so neither comparison eliminates recurring chain upkeep. A meaningful cost comparison needs maintenance tasks and intervals, parts and fluids, local labor prices, chain adjustment and replacement, and the amount of work you will do yourself. Annual mileage, weather, roads and riding style also matter.
What can change maintenance costs
Service intervals depend on riding conditions
Honda says its maintenance schedules are based on average riding conditions. Unusually wet or dusty conditions and full-throttle riding may require more frequent service, as explained in Honda’s maintenance FAQ. The practical result is that a schedule is a starting point, not a guaranteed cost for every rider.

Chain care is recurring work
Honda’s chain-care guidance says to inspect and lubricate the drive chain regularly, and to inspect it more often after riding on bad roads, at high speed or with repeated fast acceleration. It recommends Pro Honda HP Chain Lube or an equivalent for an O-ring chain. This guidance comes from a 2021 Rebel 300 owner manual, so use it as general Honda chain-care guidance rather than as the service schedule for a 2026 Grom or Rebel. Confirm the current model’s instructions and intervals in its own manual. Keep chain products off tires and brakes, and follow the manual’s procedure.

- Choose the exact bike and model year. Do not substitute a prior-year schedule for a 2026 model.
- Open the correct owner manual. Select the model and year in Honda’s owner-manual portal, then use the maintenance section to identify scheduled tasks and intervals.
- Get itemized local service prices. Ask authorized Honda dealers for parts and labor prices for the same scheduled services on each model. Honda directs owners to authorized dealers for service help in its maintenance FAQ.
- Include chain upkeep and your riding conditions. Account for inspection, cleaning, lubrication, adjustments and eventual replacement, along with how often your mileage and conditions may bring service forward.
- Separate paid service from work you will do yourself. If you plan to handle permitted maintenance, include the parts, fluids and supplies you will actually buy; do not treat your own labor as a dealer charge.
Compare totals over the same ownership period and mileage assumptions. Honda does not publish a model-by-model 2026 maintenance-cost ranking or comparable dealer service bills in the cited material, so an exact cheapest-bike answer requires local quotes and a clearly defined maintenance plan.
