The practical U.S. market for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro is now used and refurbished inventory. Google’s current Certified Refurbished catalog did not show either model when checked, and reliable new stock from major carriers was not verified. For an unlocked Pixel 6, start with Swappa; for refurbished inventory with marketplace protections, check Back Market. Before buying, compare the total price with a newer refurbished Pixel because Google’s promised update window for the Pixel 6 series is expected to end around October 2026.
Prices and listings below were checked on August 16, 2026. Marketplace stock, condition, seller, storage, carrier lock and prices can change quickly.

Where to buy a Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro right now
| Source | What you may find | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Swappa | Used and refurbished Pixel 6 listings, including unlocked and carrier-specific models | Finding an unlocked phone and comparing individual sellers |
| Back Market | Refurbished Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro units, including locked variants | Marketplace return and warranty protections |
| Google Store Certified Refurbished | Newer refurbished Pixel models; Pixel 6-series stock was not visible when checked | Manufacturer-backed refurbishment, if older inventory returns |
Amazon Renewed, Best Buy open-box inventory and eBay may occasionally have one of these phones, but availability and listing quality must be verified at checkout. A product page or search result alone does not prove that the item is in stock, unlocked, sold directly by the retailer or covered by the retailer’s standard warranty.

Is the Pixel 6 still sold new?
Reliable first-party new stock is no longer evident. Google’s current Certified Refurbished catalog showed newer models such as the Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, but not the Pixel 6 or Pixel 6 Pro. Current new inventory from Verizon, AT&T or T-Mobile was not verified.
#1 Best Overall
- Google Pixel 6 Pro featuring a premium curved 6.7-inch LTPO OLED display, offering adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz for smoother interaction and a polished, high-end design powered by the Google Tensor processor.
That does not prove that every factory-sealed unit has disappeared. A marketplace seller could still have old warehouse inventory. Treat any “new” listing as residual stock and verify all of the following:
- Whether the box is factory sealed and the phone has never been activated
- The exact U.S. model number and storage capacity
- Whether the device is unlocked or carrier-locked
- U.S. warranty eligibility and the seller’s return policy
- Whether the IMEI is clean and not financed, blacklisted or reported lost
- Who actually ships the phone and handles returns
An old sealed phone can also have a degraded battery simply because it has spent years in storage. “New” is therefore not automatically better than a well-documented refurbished device.
Where to buy the Pixel 6
Swappa: the strongest starting point for an unlocked Pixel 6
Swappa had active Pixel 6 listings when checked. The search page showed unlocked models starting at approximately $148, while Verizon listings started around $170. These are starting prices, not a typical price for every storage tier, cosmetic grade or battery condition.
Swappa is useful because listings are specific to the model and commonly distinguish unlocked phones from carrier variants. Still, assess the individual seller rather than relying on the marketplace name. Look for a clear battery disclosure, recent device photos, an explicit unlocked-status statement and a return policy. Ask for the IMEI or equivalent device-status information before purchase when it is not already provided.
Back Market: refurbished Pixel 6 inventory
Back Market had refurbished Pixel 6 listings, including a Verizon-locked example. A locked listing may be suitable only for a buyer who uses the specified carrier and confirms that activation is permitted. “Compatible with Verizon” and “unlocked” are not interchangeable descriptions.
Compare the refurbisher’s condition grade, battery policy, warranty and return window. Cosmetic grading does not necessarily tell you how much battery capacity remains.
Where to buy the Pixel 6 Pro
Swappa
A Swappa Pixel 6 Pro listing page showed prices starting at approximately $103 when checked. Treat that figure as a floor, not as the expected price of a good-condition, unlocked Pixel 6 Pro. Storage, condition, carrier status and seller history can move the price substantially.
Before comparing two listings, make them genuinely comparable: match storage capacity, lock status, condition and included accessories. A very cheap carrier-locked or damaged unit is not a cheaper substitute for an unlocked phone in good condition.

Back Market
Back Market examples demonstrate how widely Pixel 6 Pro prices can vary. The captured listings included a refurbished Verizon-locked unit at $154 and a T-Mobile-locked unit at $476. Those prices should not be treated as a market average or compared as equivalent products; differences may reflect storage, condition, seller, carrier, availability or listing anomalies.
Read the carrier designation carefully. The Verizon listing identified the phone as locked and requiring the relevant carrier SIM, as did the T-Mobile listing. If you need flexibility, filter for an explicitly unlocked model instead of assuming that a carrier-branded phone can be unlocked later.
Unlocked versus carrier-locked: which should you buy?
For most buyers, an explicitly factory-unlocked Pixel is the safer choice. It is easier to move between carriers, more useful with prepaid and MVNO services, generally easier to resell and less risky if your network needs change.

A carrier-locked phone can be cheaper, but it may require service from Verizon, T-Mobile or another specified network. Unlocking may depend on the original carrier’s rules, the phone’s payment history and whether the seller has completed required obligations. A device can also be technically compatible with your carrier while remaining locked to another one.
Before buying, confirm:
- The exact model number and regional variant
- That the listing says “unlocked,” not merely “compatible”
- That the IMEI is clean and eligible for activation
- That your carrier supports the model for voice, LTE and 5G service
- That imported versions meet your carrier’s band and eSIM requirements
Will a Pixel 6 work on U.S. networks?
There is no universal yes. Compatibility depends on the exact model, cellular bands, carrier certification, unlocked status, location, plan and whether the device meets current VoLTE requirements. Google lists Pixel 6-series LTE and 5G bands in its hardware specifications, but supported bands do not guarantee service on every network.
Verizon buyers should be especially careful about model-specific compatibility and activation status. International models can differ in LTE or 5G bands, warranty coverage, eSIM functionality and mmWave support. Use your carrier’s official bring-your-own-device checker with the exact IMEI before the return period expires.
Pixel 6 versus Pixel 6 Pro: what justifies the premium?
| Feature | Pixel 6 | Pixel 6 Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Display | 6.4-inch OLED, up to 90Hz | 6.7-inch QHD+ LTPO OLED, up to 120Hz |
| Memory | 8GB RAM | 12GB RAM |
| Camera | No dedicated telephoto camera | Dedicated telephoto camera |
| Battery | Smaller battery | Larger battery |
The Pixel 6 Pro makes sense if you specifically want its larger, sharper display, smoother adaptive refresh rate, telephoto camera or additional RAM. Choose the standard Pixel 6 if your priority is an inexpensive Pixel experience and you do not need optical zoom or the larger screen.
Do not pay a premium close to the cost of a refurbished Pixel 7 Pro or Pixel 8 merely because the older phone carries the “Pro” label. Both models use the same aging generation of Tensor platform and face the same support deadline.

- Advanced Camera System: Features wide and ultrawide lenses, 4x optical zoom, and a main sensor that captures 150% more light
- Powerful Processor: Google Tensor processor is the first processor designed by Google and made for Pixel, takes performance to a whole new level
- Fast Charging: Battery adapts to you and saves power for apps you use the most
- Protective Design: Keeps your phone protected with the next gen Titan M2 chip, 5 years of security updates, and the most hardware layers of any phone
- Modern User Experience: New Pixel experience is more modern and intuitive, with colors that reflect your personal style
The software-support problem
Google says the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro receive five years of operating-system and security updates from when each became available on the Google Store in the United States. Google lists both phones as becoming available in October 2021. On that basis, the promised support period runs to approximately October 2026, subject to Google’s exact policy language and rollout timing. See Google’s update policy and availability dates.
That leaves only a short official-support window as of August 2026. The Pixel 6 can still be usable, but it is no longer a sensible long-term software-support purchase. A low price must compensate you for the likelihood of soon needing another phone.
What to check when buying used or refurbished
For a five-year-old phone, battery and device status matter more than minor scratches. Prefer a listing with:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Good or better cosmetic condition
- A stated battery-health policy or battery testing
- No display burn-in, swollen battery or liquid damage
- A working fingerprint reader
- A clean IMEI
- Confirmed unlocked status, if that is what you need
- At least a 14-day return window
- Marketplace or seller warranty coverage
Be cautious with repaired phones. A replacement display or rear panel can affect fit, durability and practical water resistance. The original model’s water-resistance rating is not a guarantee for a used or repaired device.
Inspection checklist after delivery
- Confirm the model, storage capacity and regional variant.
- Check the IMEI with your carrier or a reputable device-status service.
- Insert a SIM from a different carrier, or use the phone’s network settings, to verify the claimed unlocked status.
- Test the display, touch response, cameras, fingerprint reader, USB-C port, speakers and microphones.
- Test Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and cellular data.
- Test wireless charging if you plan to use it.
- Check the Android security-patch level.
- Monitor battery drain during the first day.
Keep the packaging and do not close the marketplace transaction until every test passes. Google lists U.S. mail-in or walk-in repair options for Pixel 6 and later devices, but repair availability does not mean that parts or labor will be economical. See Google’s repair information.
Would a newer refurbished Pixel be better value?
Google’s refurbished catalog showed the following price signals when captured: Pixel 7a from $289, Pixel 7 from $329, Pixel 7 Pro from $499, Pixel 8a from $339, Pixel 8 from $459 and Pixel 8 Pro from $649. These prices and models are inventory-dependent and must be rechecked before purchase. Visit the current Google refurbished catalog.
A newer refurbished Pixel is usually the more defensible financial choice when the price difference is modest because it offers a longer remaining update period and typically lower battery risk. Consider a Pixel 7a, Pixel 7, Pixel 8a or Pixel 8 before paying near-new money for a Pixel 6-series phone.

Who should still buy a Pixel 6?
Buy a Pixel 6 only if you can get a genuinely low price, the phone is suitable for your carrier, the battery and IMEI checks are satisfactory and the return policy is clear. It remains reasonable for a buyer who wants a basic Pixel experience and accepts that the official support window is nearly over.
Buy the Pixel 6 Pro only for its specific advantages: the telephoto camera, larger sharper display or extra RAM. Do not choose it simply because it is a “Pro” model.
