Slate Auto says it will build its electric vehicles in Warsaw, Indiana, in the American Midwest. The current announced starting price for the truck is $24,950—not $27,000—and the company expects first deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2026. The vehicle is still in preproduction, so its final specifications, availability and pricing may change.
Where will Slate build its electric vehicles?
Slate identifies Warsaw, Indiana, as its manufacturing location. The company says its design work is in California and Michigan, while engineering is in Michigan; those activities are separate from vehicle production in Warsaw. Slate cites the region’s workforce and supply-chain considerations as reasons for its choice, but those are the company’s stated rationale, not independently measured results. Slate’s manufacturing-location page describes the arrangement.

What Slate says it plans for Warsaw
In its June 24, 2026 announcement, Slate said it plans to invest nearly $400 million in the factory and create more than 2,000 jobs. The same announcement projected that the project could contribute up to $39 billion to Indiana’s economy over 20 years. These are company-announced plans and projections, not completed investment, hiring or economic results. Slate’s announcement also says first deliveries are expected in Q4 2026; that is an outlook, not confirmation that deliveries have begun.

Warsaw is not Slate’s only announced Indiana/Midwest job location
Michigan’s May 19, 2026 announcement concerns a separate Slate headquarters expansion in Troy, not the Warsaw factory. The state said the expansion was expected to add at least 392 qualified jobs over five years, with $10.4 million in capital investment. It also reported Slate had 325 Michigan employees at that time. The state announcement describes a $5 million performance-based grant for the project. Michigan’s announcement is the source for those separate figures.
Is the Slate truck really $27,000?
No: $27,000 is not Slate’s latest announced starting price. In June 2026, the company announced a $24,950 starting price for the truck. That figure excludes taxes, title, license, registration and other governmental fees, as well as destination, documentation and optional equipment charges. A buyer’s final out-the-door cost will therefore be higher, and the announced figure should not be treated as a complete purchase budget.
Slate also announced Squareback and Fastback SUV configurations starting at $29,950. It has described pickup-to-SUV conversion options, but final availability and costs may change while the vehicle remains in preproduction. The June 2026 announcement is the source for the announced starting prices.

What is known about range and capability?
Slate projects 205 miles of range for the truck. The company describes that number as an approximation based on the EPA test cycle; it is not an official EPA-estimated range. Slate says the vehicle is in preproduction and that official EPA range will be provided when available, with specifications and features subject to change. Do not treat the projected figure as a guaranteed real-world distance between charges. Slate’s FAQ and its Blank Slate page provide the company’s qualifications.

Charging information from Slate
Slate says the truck will have a NACS charge port and access to Tesla Superchargers. The company says its standard charging cable works with 120V household outlets and specified 240V outlets, including NEMA 14-50, and that a J1772 adapter is included. Its FAQ estimates Level 1 charging at roughly 2–5 miles of range per hour and Level 2 at around 25–35 miles per hour; those are manufacturer guidance figures, not independently tested performance. Slate also describes a wall-mounted charger as an optional home setup and names Treehouse for installation and electrical upgrades. Check the final vehicle, connector, outlet and installation requirements before buying or installing charging equipment. Slate’s FAQ contains its charging guidance.

The $24,950 figure is a starting price, not an estimate of the full cost of ownership. Fees and optional equipment are excluded, and the company’s future pricing or final configuration could change before deliveries. Slate emphasizes adding accessories over time; its June announcement says it offers more than 200 accessories, with over 80% priced below $500. Those are company-stated accessory figures, not a complete estimate of how much a customized vehicle will cost.

For household budgeting, distinguish the advertised vehicle price from the eventual transaction price, then separately consider charging setup, insurance, registration and ongoing operating costs. The available announcement does not establish individual buyer tax-credit eligibility, insurance premiums, electricity costs or a final configured price, so those should not be assumed from the starting price.

Slate says owners can handle most repairs themselves with Slate U guidance, and states that the battery and powertrain warranty is 10 years or 110,000 miles. It also says customers can use more than 3,000 RepairPal shops, including more than 100 high-voltage EV service centers. These are company claims; buyers should review the final warranty terms, exclusions and service coverage for their location before purchase. The company’s June 2026 announcement contains these ownership figures.
Slate says standard equipment includes heating and air conditioning, analog HVAC controls, a backup camera, airbags, traction and stability control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, pedestrian identification and automatic high beams. The company says its design aims for a five-star USNCAP crash rating; that is a target, not an achieved rating. No official rating or independent road-test result is established in the cited material.
What is still uncertain before deliveries?
The vehicle is preproduction, and Slate says specifications, features and availability may change. The announced Q4 2026 delivery timing remains an expectation; the available company announcement does not confirm that deliveries have started. Range remains a projection pending an official EPA estimate, and the announced prices do not establish a buyer’s final cost. These distinctions matter when deciding whether the vehicle fits a budget or a near-term transportation need.
