There is no reliable current ranking that places Dejphon Chansiri among Britain’s richest football club owners. The premise is also out of date: Arise Capital Partners completed its takeover of Sheffield Wednesday in May 2026, ending Chansiri’s ownership. Available reporting gives context about his family’s business and his former club, but does not establish his current personal net worth or a Britain-only position.
Why there is no defensible rank for Chansiri
A wealth ranking needs a comparable figure for the person being ranked. BBC Sport reported in September 2025 that Chansiri belonged to one of Thailand’s richest families, whose business is Thai Union Group, and held a significant number of shares in the company. The report also said the value of those shares and his personal wealth had fallen in recent years, but it did not give a current estimate of his individual net worth. BBC Sport’s report on Chansiri and Sheffield Wednesday therefore cannot support an exact position among British club owners.
Family wealth, personal wealth and the value of a football club are different measures. A family’s business holdings do not show how much belongs to one family member, while a club’s sale value is not the owner’s net worth. Without a current personal estimate on a consistent basis, naming a rank would imply more certainty than the evidence allows.
What the available figures do—and do not—show
| Figure | What it refers to | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| About £100m | Chansiri’s reported asking valuation for Sheffield Wednesday in 2025, according to BBC Sport. | It is a club valuation, not Chansiri’s personal wealth. |
| Roughly £40m to £50m | Football finance expert Kieran Maguire’s 2025 estimate of the club’s sale value, based on comparable EFL sale multiples and Wednesday’s circumstances, as reported by BBC Sport. | It is not an estimate of Chansiri’s net worth. |
| £2.6bn | The lowest entry in FourFourTwo’s global Football Rich List 2026. | The list is not a Britain-only ranking, and Chansiri’s absence from its top 50 does not reveal his exact wealth or domestic rank. |
| £1.185bn | David and Victoria Beckham’s combined wealth in the 2026 Sunday Times Rich List, reported by The Standard. | This is a couple’s combined estimate, not a like-for-like comparison with Chansiri or a club-owner ranking. |
The club sale figures were reported by BBC Sport. FourFourTwo describes its 2026 list as a global ranking of the 50 wealthiest people associated with football; the publication’s scope and threshold make it a poor substitute for a ranking of Britain’s club owners. FourFourTwo’s Football Rich List does not supply a Britain-only position for Chansiri. The Beckham figure is useful only as broad context: The Standard’s report on the 2026 Sunday Times Rich List calls David Beckham Britain’s first billionaire sportsman, but that is not the same category or wealth basis.

Chansiri is no longer Sheffield Wednesday’s owner
Arise Capital Partners completed its takeover of Sheffield Wednesday in May 2026, bringing Chansiri’s ownership to an end. BBC Sport also reported that he received a three-year ban from owning or being a director at any EFL club. BBC Sport’s takeover report makes the title’s description of him as the club’s owner obsolete; he is a former owner.
Why the club’s financial problems are not a personal balance sheet
Sheffield Wednesday’s documented financial difficulties may help explain why club value and personal wealth should not be conflated. A 2025 disciplinary decision recorded admitted regulatory breaches relating to late wages, transfer and loan payments, and an HMRC liability. It assessed £4,272,268.62 in defaults during an additional period. Those are club defaults, not a statement of Chansiri’s personal debts, assets or available cash. The 2025 Sport Resolutions / EFL Club Financial Review Panel decision does not provide a personal net-worth calculation.

Maguire, quoted by BBC Sport as a football finance expert, captured the distinction between assets and cash: “You can sometimes be asset rich and cash poor. He is certainly not poor by normal standards, but his Sheffield Wednesday losses and the decrease in the value of the family business has hit him.” That observation offers context, not a published personal wealth estimate.

Before treating a ranking as meaningful, check what it is actually measuring:
Rank #3
- Person or family: an individual’s net worth should not be replaced with the wealth of their wider family or business group.
- Owner or club: a club’s asking price or sale valuation is not a measure of an owner’s total assets.
- Scope: a global list of people associated with football is not interchangeable with a ranking of British club owners.
- Date and method: estimates from different years or based on different methods cannot be treated as a precise league table.
Applied to Chansiri, these distinctions leave a clear answer: the available sources establish neither a current individual net-worth figure nor a reliable Britain-only rank. They do establish that he is a former Wednesday owner and that family-business shares, club valuations and the club’s liabilities should not be presented as his personal fortune.
