If you want to compare third-party Steam key retailers, Fanatical and Green Man Gaming are two examples that say they source games through publishers or official distributors. Those are retailer statements, not independent guarantees that every listing will work. Before paying, confirm the exact activation platform, region restrictions, seller identity, and refund policy—especially whether you can get help after revealing the key.
Which sites are the clearest options?

These examples are not a universally ranked list, and a retailer’s sourcing statement is not an independent audit of each product page. Catalogs, prices, regional availability, and policies can change, so read the terms attached to the specific listing you plan to buy.

What should you check before buying a key?
- Activation platform: Make sure the product is explicitly a Steam key, not a key for another launcher or a different product such as wallet credit.
- Seller identity: Confirm whether you are buying from the retailer itself or from a third-party marketplace seller. Where a page does not make that clear, do not assume the retailer sourced the key directly.
- Country restrictions: Read the listing’s region or activation notes and verify they cover your country. A key can be restricted even when the game name is correct.
- Refund terms: Check whether you can cancel after purchase and what changes once the key is displayed, revealed, or activated.
- Price context: Compare the total price with the Steam Store. A steep discount by itself does not establish that a key is fraudulent, but it is a reason to inspect the seller, region, and terms carefully.
Why does seller type matter?
A third-party key is not a Steam Store purchase. Valve says it cannot refund purchases made outside Steam, including CD keys bought from third parties. If a key fails or is later revoked, Steam’s guidance directs third-party purchasers to seek recourse from the seller rather than Valve. Review Steam Support’s CD key guidance and keep your order confirmation and any support correspondence.
Steam also warns that keys offered through trades can be for a different game, fake, already used, or region restricted. That warning is specifically about keys offered in trades; it is not a measured estimate of the risk at any named retailer. No fraud or revocation rate is established here, so a percentage-based claim would be misleading.

How do refunds change after a key is revealed?
With a Steam Store purchase, Valve’s refund policy applies to eligible purchases under its stated conditions. With a third-party key, Valve does not provide the refund; the retailer’s terms govern. Fanatical generally says revealing or activating the key removes refund eligibility, except for a technical issue. Green Man Gaming says requests are considered case by case and lists a seven-day request period and an undisclosed, unactivated key among its conditions. Read the live policy before buying, because a key may become non-refundable as soon as you expose it.
