You can add physical cash to Cash App at a participating retailer listed in the app. Open Money, tap Deposit paper money, and enter your ZIP code to find locations near you. Cash App also offers digital funding options, including a linked bank account or debit card and direct deposit.
Where to deposit cash into Cash App
Use Cash App’s in-app locator to find a participating store. Cash App gives Walmart, Walgreens, and CVS as examples, but not every branch necessarily accepts deposits. Check the current results in your app before making a trip.

- Open Cash App and tap Money.
- Select Deposit paper money.
- Enter your ZIP code and choose a participating location shown in the app.
- At the store, show the cashier the barcode generated in Cash App or, where supported, swipe an active physical Cash App Card. A retailer may request identification, the card, or other documentation.
- Hand over the cash and keep your receipt. Cash App says the balance is available after the store processes the transaction.

Fees, minimums, and account limits
Cash App’s U.S. terms list a $1 fee per paper money deposit, deducted from the amount you hand over. For example, a $10 deposit with the fee deducted adds $9 to your Cash App balance.

The terms say qualifying customers may have the fee waived through the end of the following calendar month if, during a month, they make at least $500 in qualifying purchases or receive at least $300 in qualifying deposits. Qualifying deposits are defined in the terms and include eligible payroll, pension, or government-benefit direct deposits and certain payroll transfers. Check the fee shown in your app and whether a waiver applies to your account.
There is no universal deposit limit stated in the terms. Cash App sets limits based on factors such as account history, direct deposit history, and spending activity; limits can change and are displayed in the app. A retailer may also set a minimum. Cash App’s terms say a possible $5 or $20 minimum can depend on the deposit method or retailer, so check the app and ask the cashier before proceeding.

- If you believe that your Card has been lost or stolen, notify Mastercard immediately by calling 1-833-791-7288. You will be asked to provide the Gift Card number and other identifying information.
- Use your Mastercard Gift Card in the U.S. everywhere Mastercard debit cards are accepted, including online. Your Amazon.com Balance cannot be used to purchase Mastercard gift cards.
Other ways to add money
If you do not have cash to deposit at a store, Cash App’s guide describes these alternatives:
- Linked bank account or debit card: In the app, go to Money → Add money and follow the prompts.
- Apple Pay or Google Pay: The guide also lists these as funding options through Money → Add money.
- Direct deposit: Set up eligible deposits to your Cash App balance. The U.S. terms explain that some qualifying direct deposits can also count toward the paper money fee waiver.
These digital options do not require a paper-money deposit at a retailer. Cash App does not establish in the cited guidance that generic prepaid or reload cards can be used to fund an account.
