When Will Xiaomi Cars Come to Europe? The 2027 Plan, Explained

Xiaomi’s overseas expansion is no longer just a general ambition: Xiaomi Auto has named Europe as its first overseas destination, and Xiaomi president William Lu said the company plans to begin overseas EV sales in the second half of 2027. That is a broad timetable, not a confirmed launch date for France or any other individual country; Xiaomi has not announced initial export models or local prices in the reporting available as of August 2026.

What Lei Jun meant by “the right time”

In July 2024, during a visit to France for the Paris Olympics, Xiaomi founder, chairman and CEO Lei Jun was asked whether Xiaomi fans might be able to get the SU7 in France before 2030. Gizmochina reported his reply: “OK, our goal is to be among the top five in the world, so we will definitely go global at the right time.” Gizmochina’s report of Lei Jun’s remarks records an intention to expand, not a promise of a French launch before 2030 or a timetable for any specific market.

What Xiaomi has said about its overseas timetable

March 2025: home-market strength first

In March 2025, Xiaomi president William Lu told Jiemian that the company’s immediate priority was to establish a strong position in China. He said a Chinese automaker without a solid home-market position would have difficulty doing business overseas, and that he hoped Xiaomi would officially go overseas in 2027. Jiemian’s interview with Lu framed expansion as something that depended on building the domestic business, rather than an imminent export push.

Second half of 2027: the newer target

At Xiaomi’s Q2 2026 results call, Lu said: “For EV, going global, it is on track. In the second half of 2027, we will go overseas, and this year we have been to many countries.” The transcript identifies him as Xiaomi partner and president. He also described interest from overseas dealers and work on market access and compliance. The Stock Analysis earnings-call transcript is the source for this more specific timetable.

Europe is the announced first destination, but country details remain open

CnEVPost reported that Xiaomi Auto’s international website went live on August 26, 2026, with the statement “Xiaomi Auto Officially coming to Europe in 2027.” This makes Europe the company’s announced first overseas destination. It does not establish when a particular European country will get cars. In that report, Xiaomi had not named the first countries, local prices, a more precise launch date, or the initial export lineup. The international site served as a brand and technology showcase, not a local vehicle configurator or purchase portal. CnEVPost’s report on the international website also cautioned that models displayed there should not be taken as confirmed export models.

That distinction matters for French buyers: Xiaomi has announced a Europe-wide direction, but the cited information does not confirm that France will be among the first markets or give a France-specific delivery date. The before-2030 question Lei Jun answered in 2024 therefore remains separate from the newer Europe announcement.

Why an overseas launch needs more than a date

Lu described work on market access and compliance, while CnEVPost reported preparations involving legal and regulatory requirements, adapting vehicles for local markets, and establishing sales channels and retail networks. A carmaker needs those pieces in place to sell and support vehicles in a new market; the overseas timetable does not, by itself, tell buyers when a vehicle will be orderable or serviced locally.

CnEVPost also described a sequencing strategy attributed to company comments: developed markets before developing economies, mid-to-high-end vehicles before midrange vehicles, and right-hand-drive markets before left-hand-drive markets. That is reported strategy, not a confirmed country-by-country rollout schedule. It should not be used to infer which specific European country or model will launch first.

The SU7’s early China rollout is context, not a current overseas offer

Xiaomi’s interim report says the SU7 series launched in March 2024 as the company’s first smart EV. It recorded 27,367 SU7 series deliveries in the first half of 2024 and 87 sales centers in 30 mainland China cities as of June 30, 2024. These are historical China figures from Xiaomi Corporation’s 2024 interim report, not current totals or evidence that the same vehicles, prices, or sales network will be available overseas. Xiaomi’s annual and interim reports and its global company history provide the company’s product context.
