Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) restarted manufacturing in phases on 8 October 2025, after a five-week shutdown following a cyber incident. The company later reported that production had returned to normal levels by mid-November 2025. “No one actually knows” reflected the uncertainty before JLR announced the restart; it is not the current status.
When did JLR production restart?
The first phase began on 8 October 2025. JLR announced the date the day before, describing a controlled, phased return rather than a simultaneous restart at every facility. Its 2026 annual report says production returned to normal levels by mid-November 2025; it does not give an exact date when every facility reached full capacity. What restarted first?
JLR’s 7 October announcement named the initial production areas and described the next stages. That sequence matters: 8 October is the start of the phased restart, not a claim that all JLR manufacturing resumed at once.
- The first day’s restart included the Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton and the Battery Assembly Centre in the West Midlands.
- Colleagues were also due back at stamping operations in Castle Bromwich, Halewood and Solihull, as well as key vehicle-production areas at Solihull.
- Vehicle manufacturing in Nitra, Slovakia, and the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport lines at Solihull were scheduled to follow that week.
The announcement identifies selected facilities and stages. It does not establish a separate restart date for every JLR site or joint venture.

Why was production paused?
JLR said a cyber incident affected the company and that it proactively shut down systems while working to restore global applications safely. Its 2 September statement described retail and production as severely disrupted but did not specify a restart date. On 29 September, the company said it was coordinating the safe, secure restart with cybersecurity specialists, the UK Government’s National Cyber Security Centre and law enforcement.

In a sales release dated 2 April 2026, JLR said wholesale volumes in Q4 FY26 rose 61.1% quarter-on-quarter, reflecting the return to normal production after the cyber incident. That is a comparison with the previous quarter, not evidence of year-on-year growth: Q4 FY26 wholesale volumes were still 14.5% lower than in Q4 FY25. These figures describe wholesale volumes for the quarter ended 31 March 2026, not a measure of every factory’s output or capacity. JLR’s Q4 FY26 sales release gives the comparisons.
